100% chance.

Danny is already on record saying that the 2016 Brooklyn pick will not be traded for a player in his 30's, so with regards to Pau Gasol there is more like a zero chance of this happening.
GM speak.  It means nothing.

LOL OK, means nothing.

Marc Gasol at 27-30 years old had similar foot speed as Duncan at 35-38 years old.

Marc Gasol's peak quickness, speed and agility were all at a much lower point than Duncan when both players are judged at the same ages. Gasol is highly unlikely to age as well as Duncan has because Gasol is starting from a much a lower point (speed wise) so as old age begins to chip away at Gasol's quickness and agility, it is highly unlikely that Gasol will age as well as Duncan has.

On the other hand, Dirk's basically a zombie now but still manages to play exceptionally well despite his total lack of speed.

I think Marc will still be effective for another few years, unless these foot issues keep coming up.

What's interesting is that Pau has aged really well (looks like he could go for another 2-3 years at least), but he does have a fairly different body type than Marc.

If getting Gasol lured Durant here, you don't think Danny would do it ?

Bos sends Amir, Smart, Brk 16 , Dallas 16 for Gasol

Durant signs

May have enough left over to sign Turner and/or Sully

IT            / Rozier
AB          / Turner
Durant    / Crowder
KO          / Mickey
Gasol      / Sully

Nice!

I think Dallas pick and 2018 Nets pick would be ok. Not this years.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Maybe - it depends on what moves would follow.

I would definitely rather go for Horford and use the pick for ourselves or in a trade for another 'star' player. We all have high hopes for Durant, and I don't think it is impossible that he lands here, but there has to be a plan b. By trading the pick for Gasol, we wouldn't have as solid of a position in trading for another player superior to Gasol.

If he had the type of surgery where they put a screw in his foot I'd be leery of signing him. He's making $20 million+/yr for the next 4 years.  Could end up being a chronic injury problem.

Rather have a younger healthier player who is not quite as good and who would play for a lot less money. That formula has been successful for the Patriots. They know when they've maximized the value of having a talented player and don't try to stretch it.

Nope. He had a bit of a down year this year and then he had the foot surgery.

Absolutely love him as a player and would have made this trade in a heartbeat this past offseason (were it legal then) but now I would be really hesitant to do it.

Nah
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I know he broke his foot this year , and that is never a good thing for a big man , and he will be turning 32 around the all-star break next year . Any chance Danny would trade the Nets pick for him if it falls out of the top 2 or 3 ?

Gasol would be a perfect fit in Stevens' offense, and is a former defensive player of the year . Also have to imagine that he could attract Durant .

But is it worth it for 3-5 years of Gasol at center, can he age gracefully and anchor a defense into his late 30's like Duncan is doing in San Antonio? They have similar bodies and foot speed.

What do you think ?

I hope not!

No way, not if it'd require any Brooklyn pick or Smart. If it's for the Memphis pick plus some filler, probably, or the Dallas pick plus the Philly 2nd plus filler, great, sure. He's old and he's injured. Even when he was younger and healthier, that version would not be ideal for a high pace team, although he'd be worth a Brooklyn pick and more back then. But this isn't back then. It's not 2013. It's gonna be 2017. And then it's gonna be 2018, then 2019, then 2020. And his foot won't be any younger. And he'll be making 20-25 million every year.

Danny already answered this question once, though, with the Ray Allen trade. The #5 pick for a 32 year old wing coming off knee surgery.

I think he'd do the same thing for the 31 year old two-way all-star center.  Keep in mind that Gasol only has about 19,000 minutes of NBA wear and tear. For comparison, that's about half as many as Lebron, or, more aptly, his brother Pau.

Also factor in impact on future 1 pick we hold of Memphis with a re-build there. Not a bad bonus.
