He's 18 guys. Phenomenal athlete for his size.
Too bad he's not getting drafted for a track meet.
He runs the floor better then most guys his size and can handle the ball on the break.

Vesely ran like the wind also

5th pick overall

How would you compare the amount of available data on Bender vs the amount of available data on Giannis before he was drafted?
How would you compare the amount of available data on Nikoloz Tskitishvili to Bender or Anthetokoumpo?

If the Celts draft Bender I'm just gonna watch a bunch of highlight videos (they'll probably all be the same because there's only enough clips out there to make a single video) and tell myself he's gonna be a 7'1'' Detlef Schrempf or a better Hedo Turkoglu or something.

And hope like heck he looks freaking amazing in summer league.

I'm pretty sure I've seen more video out there of Bender than I saw of Giannis.  With Giannis it was all grainy gym video from Greece and word of mouth articles on DraftExpress.  Bender has at least played in a professional league on a team I had heard of before looking up Bender's draft profile.

I have a dream that they end up with both Dragan Bender and Thon Maker, thereby assuring that we have the best headlines in NBA history.

"Enter the Dragan"

"Cavs Meet Their Maker"

"Dragan burns Knicks"

"Lakers Killed by Shot Maker"

"Dragan eviscerates Raptors"

"Maker no Faker Against Lakers"

"Cs riding Dragan to Finals"

Come on man. This is going to be AWESOME!

Too bad neither of these fellows will be a Celtic. Or I hope not

The Smart Young Celtics have LeBron wishing for his Maker after a faceoff with a Hunter and a Dragan.

That'd work assuming we can draft an NBA player with the last name "Young."

I don't see how people can be so definitive on a guy that has very little video of him, plays few minutes in a league where the talent might be slightly above the D League, and because a few draftnik web sites have written some stuff on him from having seen him only slightly more than what is available on the web.

I watched the vids and read up on him but I take DX, Chad Ford, and NBADraft.net with a serious grain of salt. They aren't the last word on draft prospects and often are exteemely wrong. He looks like he has years of physical development to go before he can even be competitive in the NBA, never mind successful. He shows some promise but also some major question marks.

Anyone coming up with definitives more than that based on available information is just fooling themselves.

Yeah, he's a complete unknown to me, but worse, he's unknown to almost everybody. The combine and measurables are nice, but you still have to see the guys playing games.

I'm not saying that he will be a bust. He might end up being the best player in the draft. But, I see bender as a bigger risk than almost anyone else at the top of the draft

How would you compare the amount of available data on Bender vs the amount of available data on Giannis before he was drafted?

It's probably comparable, but I have no idea.

However, if we were talking Bender with the 15th pick, rather than top-4, this would be a much different conversation.

Are we talking about Bender with a possible top-4 pick because he has a significantly higher ceiling than Giannis?

Is Bender really that good?  He didn't have an opportunity to show much then even though he is the most highly touted foreign big man, there's not much tape on him.  At least with Porzingis you had a better idea that he could become a stud.

Maybe give Patric Young another chance at the NBA.  I think he's been doing OK in the Greek League.

If Giannis spent the year before getting drafted playing on a top team in the Israeli league, as opposed to a 2nd tier Greek team, he might have gone top 5 in the 2013 draft.

Especially if he had already grown to 6'11'' (remember, on draft day he was only 6'9'').

As it was, Giannis was basically an 18 year old that got drafted out of a gym in Greece playing what amounts to high level pickup games, because of his physical measurements and some tantalizing grainy footage with image quality on par with some videos I've seen of Bill Russell from the late 60's.

His stats, are pretty bad folks.   His shooting is horrible.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/euro/players/dragan-bender-1.html

I hope to heck DA does fall for this trap of a player, who is all honesty can't dominate over in Europe and Israel.   He better be able to run, because he will get ate alive in the NBA.
