My concern is that he is impressing fans with his aggressiveness and athleticism, but not with the kind of core skills that make a great point guard. He doesn't have a great handle, he isn't impressing people with a consistent command of the offense and clever passing like RJ Hunter, and he isn't a pure shooter. He makes some of the same types of athletic plays that Bradley and Smart do, but not as well.

Well. Aggressiveness and athletic ability are two traits that most players need to possess if they want any shot at becoming a star. Rozier has the physical tools. Physical tools can't be developed for the most part. Skill can be developed to an extent.

It's not similar to Smart and Bradley either. Not sure where that comes from. Rozier is far more athletic and explosive than either player. That's probably where any kind of excitement comes from with Rozier. He's arguably the most explosive guard Ainge has ever drafted (Rondo..). Worst case here, I can see Rozier becoming a change of pace guard off the bench who can infuse tons of energy into the team (maybe like a Pat Beverley but better slasher than shooter, maybe like Dennis Schroder).

And then piggyback off the last post, if Rozier isn't the most athletic PG that Danny ever drafted, it was probably Marcus Banks, and we all know that didn't end in a HoF career.

Not saying that Rozier will be him, but athleticism doesn't guarantee anything. If it did, Kedrick Brown, Jerome Moiso, and Bill Walker would all be All Stars.

i was quite confused early in season watching rozier, he seemed to sort of crab walk up the court in spurts under pressure
maybe the game has slowed down now but he seems to bring the ball up with purpose and knows where he has got to get
he seems comfortable navigating the paint ,although he has been stripped a few times as he tries to split defence both times were mirror images
his getting over screens is improving and his rebounding is astounding not the the numbers per se but the speed he gets up and with that wingspan-elite
marcus is no slouch but rozier is a missile
i still get confused at roziers style even on defence maybe it his long arms

i thought tim frazier of red claws deserved a shot had a monster game against nets after being called up to pelicans 13 assists and three steals
he is averaging 17.9 pt 8 assists 5 rebounds 52% from 3 and he was right under our noses-

I'm confused too. Your post is all over the place. Do you like Rozier or not? You compliment him, but then you say Frazier "was right under our noses". Does that mean you would've wanted Frazier to take Rozier's minutes?

You know, Eddie, rollie has his own style of writing.  Once you get the hang of it, you can appreciate how incredibly observant he is out about players.  I find many of his observations very keen. He just happened to add a thought about an additional player in the D League that he liked.  A non-sequitur, I guess you would call it.

TP rollie. Rozier is rapidly gaining confidence.

Could a best case scenario for Rozier be a more defensively capable Reggie Jackson? That'd be a hell of a player.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I agree that physical tools are very important. But if you want to develop into a starting caliber point guard, you better have an elite handle and court vision, and almost every good point guard comes into the league with those skills pretty far along.

I made the comparison to Bradley and Smart because both of those guys make things happen with their athleticism and defense.  Rozier is very athletic, but claiming he is far more explosive and athletic than Avery Bradley is crazy. No one in the league is.

How is his 3 point shooting in the D-league?
Can he be a reliable 3 point shooter in the NBA.

Rozier can basically get a free pass this year, anything positive he shows is a bonus and I'm not going to get mad if he does nothing out there. That said, I hope he makes the most of the minutes he is getting because I think he will be back to the bench soon. playoff rotations and all. Also, we just have to many guys doing nothing on O for too much of the time. The D is great, but the O can't be just watching IT. AB and Jae have stepped up their scoring but we have to many guys who are passive right now. We don't need everyone to be IT, but the scoring drouts could kill us in the playoffs.

I know, and I respect his opinion. The part on Frazier is what threw me off.

sorry-i get abstract
frazier last night scored 12pts, 9 assists and 6 rebounds with one turnover in losing cause for pelicans
was only reporting, not promoting him over rozier
he is becoming a fan favorite for pelicans, they have run out of players
we get to see first hand tonight with a test against top defenders
i applaud all the players brought up from d league
,its nice for their league to have success stories
keeps players morale up and the dream alive-

I need to see more from him as he need more mins
But Stevens is unlikely to rest our starters while we try to compete for the 3rd spot

He is definitely athletic and aggressiveness
But ball handling and passing I haven't really seen anything special from him

frazier is like the classic point guard had some time in portland but was waived came to celts camp one year

frazier played well against a defensive celtics--the kid can run a team
it really takes time for a point guard to mature, frazier has paid his dues
i was worried that this was a trap game
shows the value of b league
coty clarke playing well again and he shoots the three,he bears watching
