I think a success this season means getting to the 2nd round and I think the best way to do that is with homecourt advantage. This is still a young team with minimal playoff experience and getting some home cooking would go a long way to making them confortable and helping to advance against whoever they wind up playing.
People posting that they want a lower seed so the team can have a better draft pick are insane. That deep in the draft, the difference between #22 and #19 is next to nothing. And in the unlikely scenario that there is someone Ainge is desperate for, you can make that can of move with a second rounder or two (since we have more than we will ever be able to use this summer and going forward). Homecourt, I think, would mean infinitely more to this team. Advancing in the playoffs would be a big deal both for the player's and for the organization when it comes to recruiting free agents.
i understand about reaching the second round and it would be very, very nice.
but just label me the prince of low expectations. if the celtics win ONE playoff game this year i consider it a great improvement. at the start of the rebuild, i did NOT think the celtics would be in the playoffs until next season. so, i am pleased as punch with them so far and would be delighted with a measly win or two.
of course, i wouldnt turn down the celtics winning a playoff series either.

I get that. Winning a playoff game would be an improvement on last season but I think, given how well the team has played this year, it would be a disappointment to me if they didn't advance. It would for me, anyway. And I think the benefit of going to the second round is worth the risk of losing to a lower seed by a mile.
