Spears-

Boston has a real chance. Boston makes sense. They make a lot of sense. When Durant does come into visit they need to have a Havlicek there, they need to have a Cousy there, they need to have a Satch Sanders, to tell him about the history and explain who the people are in the rafters. Plus, his road to the Finals will be easier through the East.

Isn't this covered in the new spoiler argument thread?  Don't say anything about this until this summer after it happens or you'll ruin it for certain posters! :o :D

This is actually huge news for me.  It means there is some hope.

Before the season I said Durant meeting with Boston is probably the most the C's can hope for.

I expect Durant to sign a year deal in OKC, but if we have a good meeting this summer it could effect his decision when he becomes a free agent in 2017.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Agreed, this makes a great deal of sense.

Here's what I don't get... if Durant does a one year deal w/ OKC to cash in on the higher cap in 2017, then if he left OKC he wouldn't be able to do the 5 years with higher increases each year. So, if Durant is going to leave, doesn't it make more sense for him to do a one year deal with the new team this summer and then do the 5 year deal the next summer? Money wise he would get much more by taking the short-term financial hit for much more money over those 5 years...

Honestly the fact that we can get a meeting with a FA of this caliber tells you all you need to know about the direction of this franchise and gives real evidence that the idea that the Cs can't get big name FAs is false idea and was more a product of no cap space in previous seasons.

Great job DA, and whether or not he comes here I'm excited

You need to play for a team for 3 years (or have your contract traded) to qualify for the "Larry Bird exception" which lets players sign 5 year contracts.

So even if Durant signs a 1 year contract with Boston in summer of '16, the C's can still only sign him to a 4 year max contract in the summer of '17.

Also the league has wised up, and even with a sign-and-trade, Durant still would only be able to get 4 years and 4.5% from his new team.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Thanks!!! Didn't know that at all.

I still maintain my stance that KD will not leave OKC, but I am hoping I'm wrong and you guys are right.

I hope DA (and IT, Crowder, etc.) will be able to sell KD on playing for Boston. I sincerely believe that the Celtics are a be-there kind of team. You don't know how awesome it is from the outside, you have to "be there".

Nice find. TP. Hope it happens.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

he seems like a celtic type guy. its not hard to see him thriving here. we'll see. but it doesn't seem that far fetched.

he has to give the Celtics a meeting.  It would be foolish not to.  It's arguably the best place for him to sign.

It's probably more likely than not that Durant stays in OKC, but if he leaves, it's hard to see a team having a better shot than the Celtics at landing him as a free agent.

One of the selling points will be how the Thunder have made years of moves intended to stay out of the luxury tax and remain a highly profitable team, so that money always trumps winning.

I hope he's as easy to convince as we are ;D

I feel like if OKC fail to make west finals
Durant would be looking else where
But I think that with Westbrook still in OKC, it will be hard to convince him to play elsewhere as he already has a top 5 player

OKC problems mainly with their offense teamwork and in need of vets
Also they've suffered some devastating issues unrelated to basketball
They have a ton of young talent on their bench
So I see Durant signing back for 1 year and then seeing what Westbrook does
