Zeller is being over exposed at the minute. Let's not forget all the good he brings to the table too; his running the floor, pnr action etc. He's still a good player but it's fairly clear that he has his limitations.

As a 4th quarter weapon he still has the ability to seriously impact the game against slower bigs

i like zeller
i think most teams would want a guy like him
hes a very capable back up C
does everything solid with no really big problems or strengths

kind of reminds me of Nick Collison

Went to the game Friday and was on the floor, pretty close to the court, and came away thinking how soft he plays. On one play, Beasley was able to push him back under the basket, get offensive rebound and lay it in over him. That was just one case. Being so close I was shocked how easily he was moved around. It's no surprise he doesn't rebound. Seem like a nice guy, but soft.
Off topic, being so close, I really got to see what a load Sully is. Always thought the TV added 10 lbs. I was wrong. He's just fat.

I think the question isn't so much whether Zeller is a decent backup center or not, it's more of a question about whether a decent backup center is really worth making any sort of contractual commitment to at this point of a rebuild.  This team still needs at least 2-3 more starters before we start worrying about backup centers.

I'd also question just how much a backup center matters in today's NBA where small ball is becoming more in vogue.  If the likes of Crowder and Jerbenko are going to consume 20 minutes or more of "big" (4/5) minutes per game, that only leaves 76 minutes left for other bigs.  If we were then to imagine that our future starters at the 4/5 would both be playing north of 30 mpg, then we're only talking about our backup 5 playing about 10 mpg at best.  And if that's the case, I think we're probably fine just giving that job to an aging vet at a cheap, short contract or to someone like Jordan Mickey.

But if Zeller wants to come back on an inexpensive 1-2 year deal, I could live with that.  I just don't see the value to locking him up long term.

Zeller has dropped to 3rd from last among all centers in RPM and has now contributed to -.07 wins on the season.

Nah, the whole team was subpar. Everyone except Isaiah and rozier, hunter, mickey
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Apparently Zeller is also the only non-rookie Celtics with a negative net rating. I honestly wonder what happened to him. I'm not even talking about this losing streak - the entire team has problems -  but he's just a straight up awful player now and has been for most of the season.

the NBA might just not be his thing. I think he would be a great D-league player

He is so bad and different from last year .  I have to wonder if much of the bad play is attitude . :-\
