I think players are attracted to other players. Not coaches.

I can see a coach being a deciding factor if all else is even ... but not a primary attraction.

I think players are individuals, and it's ridiculous to say it's one thing or another.

It'll be at least this summer before we get any high profile FA, which in general I think are overrated.

I think its the reputation of the whole franchise that is a big factor. The fans, city, owners, staff, and players. I think Brads quest for corporate knowledge is to establish a revolving system like the spurs organization, and I think he is headed into the right direction really fast.

Keep in mind though everyone's different.  There may well be a player who notices how all of Stevens players seem to improve and might think he'd like to play for that kind of coach.  Maybe one of them could be Kevin Durant who's had to play for crappy coaches since his one year at Texas...

Great FA's want to go to great teams with recent title credentials and continued excellent chances to win more titles.  We are neither, and BS will not make the difference to convince these players to come here because he's the coach, we are a GOOD team, and MIGHT have a chance to win a title someday.
As long as GS, SA, and the CAVS are at the top of the heap that's where the premiere FA's will want to go.  Those teams don't really even have to recruit FA's!  Most of the best of the rest want to go to a destination they really like, AND/OR get paid more than they're worth!

Well those teams are going to be long over the cap, won't be big players in free agents.

exactly. its not like every star who hits free agency is going to be on the cavs, gs or spurs  ::) maybe supporting cast type players will choose them. but the C's already have a supporting cast in place.

We can say this and that, but money is always decisive in attracting stars. To be more precise, it is taxes and market itself that star players look for.

The answer to the thread title is about four months.

Players want money, a winning situation and to be in a situation where they can perform their best. We offer all 3.

I think we will get meetings with Horford and Durant (this is even more likely if we pull off a big trade on draft night)
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I think you have to win a title in this league to draw free agents as a coach.

Pop
Doc
Pat

And apparently a three letter nickname? "Brd" Stevens?
Truuuuuuuuuth!

I obviously would love to get Durant but i would assume there would have to be another star player willing to come with him. Hypothetically who could we trade our pick for if it were #1 who could attract KD ?

This offseason we have as good a chance as any team at signing top-level free agents.  It's basically an ideal situation outside of not having a superstar already in place.   Everything else is a checklist of perfection for a prospective free agent.   We have a legitimate shot at Durant if he hits free agency.

The Celtics can afford to be selective.  Anyone we want should be taking our meetings this Summer.  Any sports agent worth salt will encourage their client to consider the Celtics.  The Pats/Sox have no trouble luring top names.  The Celtics will not be any different.   I feel like Ainge's entire tenure has built towards this Summer.  This has the potential to be the end game of everything he's done stretching back pre-KG.

I believe the plan is to sign both Horford and Durant.  If Durant hits free agency, we will contact him immediately and pitch him on the idea of bringing a second player (Horford seems like a reasonable candidate).   Adding those two alone to this team makes it a legitimate contender... but it doesn't end there.  We'd have the Brooklyn pick and additional assets we could potentially trade for another star... and with the cap apparently jumping another 20 million the next Summer, we'd possibly be in position to add another max contract.

You can't undersell how well this team is positioned heading forward.

We have to believe that, right?  If you are a top-flight free agent and you can't get a "destination" like LA, Miami, Dallas, you have to go for a chance to win with a young core.  Is there a franchise better setup than the Celtics right now?
