This last win against the Knicks, has convinced me, it's time to make a move to sign Kevin Durant this off season.

This team has excelled further and faster than anyone has anticipated. Hat's off to Danny Ainge, and Brad Stevens. IMO it's time to take a swing for the fences...make a move to sign Kevin Durant this off season, by convincing him this Celtic team is much more than the sum of it's parts. Which is certainly looking to be true. It very well may be his best shot to get into the finals, by moving East.

Then sign or trade for a solid, defensive minded center, using draft picks, and a player or two. And win the east by beating the Cavs, and getting into the finals.

there I said it.

Maybe offer Durant 15℅ ownership of the celtics. Wonder if that has been done before.

I would like Kevin Durant. I'm sure Danny would like Durant too. Unfortunately, 29 other GM's want KD as well. We have a compelling offer for him, and hopefully he listens, but tonight's game changes nothing.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Danny has been looking for an idea like this for the last 5 years.

You're on to something.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think it's definately worth pondering and I don't say that very often.  Durant would potentially fit here very well.  Maybe Ainge will pull off something big on draft day.   I'm not sure Westbrook, Durant and the style of play coaching in OKC is the answer.  Durant coming here to play with Isaiah, Smart and Stevens might be.

Durant vs Simmons, Ingram or anyone in the draft is light years ahead of them although maybe not so much as far as longevity or being able to develop them to our liking.  Durant is a player who could fit here very nice though.

I could see a swap of picks and Crowder maybe for a guy like Durant.  I just don't see OKC letting it get to that point if Durant is going to walk.

He's a FA, and we have enough cap space to sign him outright, so there's no reason to give the Thunder anything
I'm bitter.

I just don't see Durant pulling a lebron and bolting on OKC like Lebron did in cleveland.  It would more be something where if Durant wanted to come here something would be worked out on draft day.  I think Durant is definately showing his willingness to see what else is out there at this point though.

I'm not in the know or anything either, that's just not usually how it works.  I think there is just maybe more to him and his impending free agency much like Rondo was for us.  Players of that caliber usually don't just bolt.

Durant is a guy who could force his way here in a sign and trade. He has that sort of clout much like KG did. He is that type of player maybe where he'd do that. I don't know.

that sounds absurd to me.

If he's coming here he will want to pursue a championship. He's not gonna jeapordize his ability to do that so his old team is OK without him.

I mean has anything like that ever happened before? It just sounds crazy?

Rumors were he might sign outright with Golden State.  I don't believe rumors normally.  He could.  OKC probably doesn't want him to just walk though.  Durant might like the situation here where he gets to be the guy as well and win a championship.  Either way Durant definately seems like he's exploring things where he's either going to win in OKC and something is going to change there,  or go somewhere else to do that or just not win.  Here gives him just as much a possibility as Golden State where he would get to be the guy here and OKC would get something back as well.  OKC would trade him out of conference as well vs having one super team in Golden State.  He could go to Golden State but here makes sense as well.

Durant goes to golden state that's a great situation for him where they have a super team, where we just keep building like the underdogs, but he might feel he's not going to get the credit there he deserves.  Coming here he would.

Super teams work out sometimes just look at the lakers and celtics in the 80's.  But other times they look  good on paper and really don't.  I think it could come down to him staying in OKC or going to Golden State or coming here though. Coming here could be the best for all parties really.  I think if he came here it would be in a sign and trade though.  Going to golden state maybe not so much.

That is rumored Tim Duncan deal. Duncan is supposedly a part owner so it's why he gets a crazy low players salary the last few years.

Golden State has a really good mix right now with Curry as a #1, Klay #2 and Barnes  #3 with Draymond as that glue guy.  Durant would really take Barnes spot and give them Curry, Klay, and Durant with Draymond as the glue guy.  Who's #1 there?  Seems like not enough balls to go around. Durant could end up like Kevin Love there.

Kobe and Shaq had these same issues because they were both #1's.  It didn't last.  Durant has this issue with Westbrook already.  We had Bird, Mchale and Parish but they were more clear #1, 2, 3 as far as their roles.  Same with KG, Pierce and Ray here. Durant is a #1.  He'd be a clear #1 here much like Curry is in Golden state.

I was looking at the 2007 Ray Allen trade and Melo seems to be the closest thing to a Ray Allen in the modern game.

Both players were 31-32 and both were still elite scorers, who were on bad teams the previous year and had some injury concerns. Neither were good enough to be "the man" but both would be lethal as the third guy.

I cant think of anyway to find that third piece (Thomas being the second) but I think the Melo-Allen parallels are pretty interesting. Especially seeing as Melo seems to be on the trading block just as Ray was, and the Cs look to be armed with a top 5 pick again.
