Golden State has a really good mix right now with Curry as a #1, Klay #2 and Barnes  #3 with Draymond as that glue guy.  Durant would really take Barnes spot and give them Curry, Klay, and Durant with Draymond as the glue guy.  Who's #1 there?  Seems like not enough balls to go around. Durant could end up like Kevin Love there.

Kobe and Shaq had these same issues because they were both #1's.  It didn't last.  Durant has this issue with Westbrook already.  We had Bird, Mchale and Parish but they were more clear #1, 2, 3 as far as their roles.  Same with KG, Pierce and Ray here. Durant is a #1.  He'd be a clear #1 here much like Curry is in Golden state.
Its certainly interesting.

I think right now the odds on favorite is still OKC. I just dont understand why he would leave. Hes on a terrific team that has made it to the finals. He has some really nice players around him. This is not a Lebron James scenario where they have failed to surround him with any talent.

Id obviously love to see him in Boston and I think that if he decides to leave OKC we will be in the mix. I just dont see it happening.

For GSW I just have no idea what to think. No idea at all. I hope it doesnt happen.

Maybe offer Durant 15℅ ownership of the celtics. Wonder if that has been done before.
That is rumored Tim Duncan deal. Duncan is supposedly a part owner so it's why he gets a crazy low players salary the last few years.
Didn't Jordan have to sell his stake in the Wizards when he returned to play?

Selling a stake in a team to an active player would be subversion of the salary cap. Durant will just have to save up if he wants to be an owner when he retire.

Duncan is not part owner of the Spurs.

KD would be a great fit and undoubtedly improve the team. It won't be easy for DA to convince him the grass is greener at the TD Gardens; but, thanks to the team and CBS, he has some ammunition to work with.

A move like that could depend on what other talent DA can bring in. Despite the achievements of this team so far KD may feel another all star is required.

Luckily we have Brad, Danny 3 firsts including a top 6 pick and max cap room to lure that other star.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

We will make a move on KD.

We will make a move on every single good FA this summer, rest assured.

Same way as we made a move for almost every all star player available during the break.

Danny will do his best but the ball is on their court.

I might stay away from KD and go for two others; Horford is unrestricted and Barnes is restricted.  I don't think GSW can keep everyone and he might be available.

Time for Durrant to WAKE UP

With Warriors he gets a title .....for basically just showing up

With Celtics he could earn a legacy like KG

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I would obviously love Durant, but am not very hopeful he will want to sign with us. If for some reason he leaves OKC and goes to GSW, we should do everything we can to pry Draymond away from the Warriors. I can't think of a player better suited for our system.

That's what I'm talkin about. ^^ I understand every team will covet him.

If he stays in OKC he'll stay home and watch the finals for the next few years. If he is convinced to come East to a team that plays hard, refuses to give in, is growing, and has a ton of draft picks to boot, he can get into the finals, by getting by a Cav's team that is not special.

If Kevin can be convinced, in Boston he's joining a revered family...we have a good shot.

I think it's definately worth pondering and I don't say that very often.  Durant would potentially fit here very well.  Maybe Ainge will pull off something big on draft day.   I'm not sure Westbrook, Durant and the style of play coaching in OKC is the answer.  Durant coming here to play with Isaiah, Smart and Stevens might be.

Durant vs Simmons, Ingram or anyone in the draft is light years ahead of them although maybe not so much as far as longevity or being able to develop them to our liking.  Durant is a player who could fit here very nice though.

I could see a swap of picks and Crowder maybe for a guy like Durant.  I just don't see OKC letting it get to that point if Durant is going to walk.

He's a FA, and we have enough cap space to sign him outright, so there's no reason to give the Thunder anything

Exactly! And I'd like to think our current roster is partly why a big name like KD would (hopefully) sign with us.

IT/ET
Smart/Bradley
KD (potentially)/ (top 5 pick)
Crowder/KO
Horford (potentially)/Sully

Would be a really nice line up.

I think the celtics should make it a priority to sell KD on Boston, starting with convincing KDs agent and friends/family.

Huh? No reason why KD could not build a legacy in GS with all the great young players there. What legacy could he build in Boston without another transcendent star or two here?  I don't think Boston has any advantage over a team like GS and probably not an advantage over 10 other teams. At his age, restarting in Boston does not sound appealing.

I do think the Celtics have a strong pitch. Durant gets a guaranteed ticket to the ECF and a great chance to make the Finals every year, with a nice long window as Boston's young players + draft picks develop. We could add Horford as well, or wait until next summer and get one of the many top-tier FAs (Griffin, Paul, Westbrook, Lowry).
