  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
Who cares if Lee is putting up good numbers in Dallas?

The players we currently have are playing well and with his departure from the team Mickey now dresses for every game. Zeller is much better than Lee at this stage in his career, so keeping Lee wouldn't have helped us at all.

You can tell things are good for the Celtics when all anyone can complain about is that a player who used to be on the end of our bench is now doing better for another team.
What is our record since he left because that is all the matter. I hope he makes the All Star team next year but he is useless here at his age and our direction. Our team is in development not in adding 30+ players. He is not going to win a championship in Dallas.  He wanted playing time and we are better without him. We have a better chance of making the finals than them he wanted to play more. He inspired James Young to work harder so his desire to workout helped our team, too.
"People look at players, watch them dribble between their legs and they say, 'There's a superstar.'  Well John Havlicek is a superstar, and most of the others are figments of writers' imagination."
--Jerry West, on John Havlicek

Everyone is forgetting that Danny had no choice. He 100% had to buy out Lee.  He had NO choice!!!

Lee fell out of Stevens rotation, that completely 100% tied Danny's hands.  Why the debate, there is nothing to debate???

Lee will regress to the norm, as he did last night.  We tend to get carried away by the stats of one or two games and I am the worst to do that:-).

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Lee was a +10 tonight.
Dallas has won three in a row since he joined them.

I'll say it again for the third time in this thread - how could we come to an agreement with Lee to waive him without getting a guarantee that he would not sign with BKN or Dal? I get it, Lee was totally ineffective here and retirement is very near, but that didn't mean that he couldn't find a fit for the last 30 or so games this season.

It's like Lee has had more of a positive impact than Rondo did last year. I guess they had to eek something extra out of the trade that brought us Crowder.

I would say it would be against the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement for a team to ask for a contingency that guarantees that a released player would not sign with certain teams.

Oh, I wouldn't consider it 'officially' part of the buyout, but Ainge did Lee a solid by paying him a large sum of money not to play basketball for our team anymore and give him an opportunity to showcase his skills for what will likely be his last contract. He could have just asked Lee nicely not to sign with either of those teams since he was doing Lee such a favor...I guess that didn't happen or Lee didn't oblige. Either way, Lee is currently helping Dallas surge in the standings - even it is just his attitude/looks.

I missed the SURGE:-))  They beat the Nuggest, Magic, and Timberwolves ALL at HOME!!

They play 10 of their last 16 on the ROAD.  And four their HOME games at GS, Portland, Memphis, and SA.

Let's at least QUALIFY the term "surging!!"

The most popular song on all the Dallas radio stations...."Mr. Lee". He has become a legend already.

Danny has recently used the 15th spot to bring over the minimum non-guaranteed contracts to help in offseason trades. THIS could be way more useful than Lee sitting on a bench for the rest of the season.
and why do think this tactic, one already used by ainge, was not the case this time? obviously, ainge was aware of it but decided against it. i dont know why, but i am not sure you do either. please explain more. thanks.

He probably will do that, unless he figures out that a real contributor has just been waived by another team.

There is simply no reason not to pick up someone in a very team friendly contract with this last spot.

I'm thinking this came down to rotation time for guys and Mickey. Very surprised DA didn't send Lee and cash to Portland for a 2nd*. But I guess Varjeo is better for Blazers.

Considering Varejao came with a 1st rounder attached, yes.

David Lee will struggle to get decent money in the off season as Brandon Bass did last year.  People mistake Box score production for production that is actually conducive to winning basketball games.  He just does or doesn't do to many things that hold a negative expectation when he steps on the floor both offensively and defensively.  With that said he may bolster Dallas's bench a little as their bench bigs have been terrible and they have been getting drilled anytime Dirk is not on the floor.
