Prior to the trade deadline, the Boston Celtics expressed interest in obtaining Anthony via a trade with the Knicks, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation.

It is unclear if there were any formal discussions between New York and Boston and if those discussions ever reached an advanced stage. But Boston was informed that Anthony had no desire to leave the Knicks via trade to play for the Celtics, sources say.

I wonder if after the season he may change his mind. I'm sure he didn't want to look like Dwight with all the drama and leave mid season. I bet if he agreed to waive it we had the pieces to get it done and Jackson would have pulled the trigger.

The only thing stopping Melo from being traded is Melo. The Cs certainly have enough pieces to do a trade. He's a great scorer and under-rated as a player, he's under contract for 3 more years (with an ETO) at what will be a reasonable cost, but he's also 31. Would much rather have Love myself.

So I guess Danny is finally OK with trading for a star even past his (or in) 30's?

We didn't want him anyways!

Lol jk. I wouldn't mind Melo if the price wasn't too high and he came with the right mentality.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

So we would have an offense of IT, and either Bradley or Smart next to Melo? Yikes. Pretty nasty.

Ainge said he wouldn't trade the Nets 1st for a star like that. So if this is true, he would've been offering lesser picks and/or players.

not surprised melo turned this down if true. he'd have a chance to make a difference here, but it's all about NY and keepin it real.

I kinda like Melo's loyalty to the Knicks. That is where he wants to be. That is cool.

I'd love to see Melo get a Championship but if he wants to play in NYC more than he wants to a chase a ring = fair enough.

The Knicks could still improve quite a bit over next few seasons. Porzingis is one heck of a prospect. Depending on how quickly or how slowly Porzingis grows, the Knicks can re-open their chances of challenging for a title. They should become a more attractive FA destination with Porzingis and Melo there too. Robin Lopez is the only real big contract they have there outside of Melo that goes past next season. There will be cap space.

There is still a chance that New York could build a title contender with Melo there.

Agree. Just one more reason to dislike him...

Yeah, I don't understand why Melo needs to be viewed negatively for being loyal to the team he wants to play for.   Why does chasing a ring have to be the barometer for a player's worth?  Let the man be happy however he see's fit.

And if he is able to win a ring in NY, just think how much more satisfying for him that will be.

I am all for player loyalty and I think it's great when a guy in any sport wants to stay with his team and not chase rings or money.  The problem here is that the Knicks don't want him (or his contract) anymore.  They would trade him in a heart beat for pennies on the dollar if he would just leave.  Of course I don't want him on the Celtics so I am glad he is stubborn.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Doesn't Melo have a pretty hefty trade kicker that comes into play mid-next season? If that's the case, Melo has no reason to leave until at least then. It also gives him a chance to see if the Knicks have any real chance of improving the team. I suspect the former is the main reason he didn't waive his NTC to join the Cs (or any team).

Clickbait!

Have you noticed how after Danny said he had discussions about one unnamed player there's been la ton of articles written about how he tried to trade for the Unibrow, WCS, Okafor, 'Melo, etc? There's a bunch of stuff written with unnamed "league sources" that's pure speculation. It's clickbait, folks.

I am sure that Danny sent out feelers to every team to see what kind of deals were out there. That's his job and of course that would include contacting the Knicks so he could see if there was a deal to be made. My guess is that given 'Melo's age, if Danny did specifically ask about him it was to see if he could be part of a multi-team deal that would have brought in a younger player to Boston. But I sincerely doubt that Danny wanted any part of 'Melo on the Celtics.
