Melo's comfortable where he is.  Would rather finish his career in New York than build on his playoff resume.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

From the talk you here, Melo's wife is comfortable where they are and does not want to leave.

Happy wife, happy life.

when I hear Melo turning down trades, this is the only thing that comes to mind -- his wife's deep rooted desire to find fame in NYC

Isn't she the one that tastes like vanilla? You'd think she'd want to be near where KG raised a flag.

That's just what we need an aging, injury prone, star with a poor attitude.

We don't need to trade our assets for a former star entering his mid-thirties with a bad knee. Danny would be really short sighted to do that.  And it wouldn't even guaranty you a trip to the finals. At least with the KG-Allen deals, we became a dominant team over-night.

Giving the Knicks assets for Carmelo is probably the Celtics easiest path towards trading for a star in the offseason. Even if Carmelo won't come here, it's more likely that Cleveland or the Clippers trade Love/Blake for Carmelo than the assets we have.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I think Boston needs to stay away from the 30+ crowd.

Doesn't Melo have a pretty hefty trade kicker that comes into play mid-next season? If that's the case, Melo has no reason to leave until at least then. It also gives him a chance to see if the Knicks have any real chance of improving the team. I suspect the former is the main reason he didn't waive his NTC to join the Cs (or any team).

My understanding was that if he were traded this year, he got about $2mil, and if he were traded next year, it kicks to 8.

It has nothing to do with Honey Nut Cheerios (Not vanilla) or not wanting to play with our guys. If he were going to have left at the deadline, I think that he would've picked Cleveland over us, BUT....

...it's all about the Benjamins.

That crowd is fine as long as it does not cost the Celtics their best trade assets.

If the deal went through, my guess

To knicks: Lee, Jerebko, 3 1sts (incl Nets pick)

To Celts: Melo

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Danny said some time ago that he wanted to stay away from star players in their 30s this time around because he wanted the next good era of Celtics basketball to have a larger window of title contention than what the KG-Paul-Ray teams had. But maybe I made that up.

My preference is that our next stars be under 30, for that very reason. I don't mind having solid role players who are 30+, because those guys won't be playing a ton, but I want the team's best players to have fresh legs for many years.

I am not saying get only over 30 stars.

If you can get a star, go for it.   But guys over a certain age or towards the end of a contract are not worth the best assets.
