I'd rather not sign a veteran to replace Lee. Lee wasn't playing anyway so I don't want to bring in a guy who will expect to get minutes.
I'd probably rather give RJ or Young any minutes Novak would otherwise get.
Novak won't get any minutes, hardly. He plays the stretch 4, so conceivably could be in line for minutes if Jerebko went down, but those aren't going to James Young anyway. Despite being rarely used since the beginning of last season, he's still over 40% from 3 -- in other words, he's a guy who can come in cold off the bench and be an option late in a playoff game when you desperately need a 3. That's something worth having, and unlike a lot of players, that's a role he's more likely to be okay with. But barring injury, he's a benchwarmer with a specific skill that might be useful once in a playoff series. Those are the players you get in buyout deals. In my opinion, he should be one of our prime targets.
People keep mentioning Kevin Martin, but I'd be shocked if he's bought out. He has a $7.4 million player option next year -- if he were willing to forego that, he'd have been traded yesterday.
