David Price.  This makes me think Jay Crowder is going to break into Bob Marley's one love at any time.  6 hours and waiting.

Being a baseball fan as well and being a royals fan since i was a kid and red sox it's fun watching how those teams build.  Baseball is different but the royals have a ton of really good homegrown position players, a strong bullpen and solid starters and try to add that ace as the season goes. The sox have a mix of old and young home grown position players.  Missing a couple spots.  An Ace and a strong bullpen. It should be a fun year in baseball too.   I may draft my entire fantasy team with royals and red sox.

Hate to be overly cynical but my first thought when I read this quote was when's the last time a team won the championship with 1 Superstar? I here ya Crowder and love the way this team is playing but we're not quite where we need to be yet to contend.

If we add even 1 of Horford/Love/Howard I definetly think we can be right there with the elite teams though for the same reasons that Crowder mentioned. Any of those 3 would fit right in to what we do now and elevate the team to where we need to be in crunch time.and when the game slows down in the playoffs.

DETROIT BASKETBALLL

And don't tell me they were stars. None of them were stars until they started going deep into the playoffs and then won the title. They heard the same exact things about star power when they faced the Lakers.

We need continuity. We need to continue to emphasize teamwork. We need another gritty overlooked scorer.

History is written by the victors. The narrative is written by ESPN. If ESPN says we are starless and can't win a championship, then that is the assumption, until we win and win and win more. The narrative will be re-written every time we win another big game.

Baseball is mostly different because (a) there's no cap, (b) rich teams are REALLY rich. Can't really compare with anything else.

Nope, he was a pretty good player and a knucklehead. Heck, he wasn't regarded as a real star even AFTER the Pistons made it deep into the playoffs.

Rasheed Wallace wasn't a star???

NBA message boards in 2028 debating the same issue, in one of the 500 out of 10000 futures where the 2016 Celtics shock the world and win the championship:

- No team without a superstar ever wins.
- But the 2016 Celtics won.
- Aberration! Plus they did have stars. They had Isaiah Thomas in the first of his 4 All Star seasons, they had a 5-time All-Defensive 1st teamer in Smart, they had Jae Crowder...
- But which came first, chicken or the egg, stardom or the title. We only remember Crowder so well today because he was the Finals MVP that year...
- ...they had a young MLD [Kelly will be better known by then as "Maple Leaf Dirk"], they even had an All-D guy coming off the bench in Bradley...
- Sigh. I guess you're right. We'll never win unless we keep tanking. Trust the process. [Sixers fans waiting out their 15th consecutive year of tanking.]
- ...plus an aging Horford as a rental. We need stars like Boston had!
"Young man, you have the question backwards." - Bill Russell

"My guess is that an aggregator of expert opinions would be close in terms of results to that of Danny." - Roy H.

TP. Well said. What comes first, the chicken or the egg. Do stars make champions, or do champions make stars?

I think players become superstars when they start winning.  The league doesn't always work that way though.  If I'm the celtics i think we win and that changes everything.  I've never been this person who thinks there is only one way to build.  It does go both ways though, but I'd rather build something from within and develop players and all that.

The no superstar 2004 Pistons won the chip because A) the Lakers 2 superstars were at each other's throats, virtually, LA's two other stars were no longer superstars and too old to even just be stars/starters. B) Pistons stars/starters & bench played so well together.
