Good article.   I hope Jay Crowder is right in ways.  We have a lot of talent.  Crowder is locked up at  7 mil per for the next several years which is great.

Hate to be overly cynical but my first thought when I read this quote was when's the last time a team won the championship with 1 Superstar? I here ya Crowder and love the way this team is playing but we're not quite where we need to be yet to contend.

If we add even 1 of Horford/Love/Howard I definetly think we can be right there with the elite teams though for the same reasons that Crowder mentioned. Any of those 3 would fit right in to what we do now and elevate the team to where we need to be in crunch time.and when the game slows down in the playoffs.

I think Thomas (6 mil)
Crowder(7 mil)
Smart(4 mil)
and AB(8 mil)
-----------------
total 25 mil

costs about as much as a superstar, produces probably as much if not more.

Im not sure I can think of any player Id trade those 4 guys for.

Warriors, Spurs, Mavs.
CB Mock Deadline - Minnesota Timberwolves
Kemba Walker / Tyus Jones / Aaron Brooks
Jimmy Butler / Jamal Crawford / Treveon Graham
Rodney Hood / Nic Batum / Marcus Georges Hunt
Taj Gibson / Nemanja Bjelica / Jonas Jerebko
KAT / Derrick Favors / Cole Aldrich
Picks - 2018 CHA 1st (Lotto protected), none out

Warriors, Spurs, Mavs.

The 2014 Spurs didn't even really have one superstar that year. Duncan was no longer a superstar and Leonard had yet to turn into one. It's within our reach to be somewhat like that Spurs team, if our best players have postseasons that approach the peak of their current abilities. Naturally it'd help to rent Horford and see if he can do a decent impression of 37-year-old Duncan.

Sorry everyone, really do respect your views but we're no where near the kind of cohesion the Spurs team possesed, have no one close to peak Dirk, and as for the Warriors... Stop Steph Curry was a true MVP, Klay Thompson was a max contract player and Draymond Green was emerging as a top 15 talent.

All of those teams reached their peak by remaining aggressive on the trade and FA markets. Mavs acquired Chandler to shore up their one weakness. GS used the savings from Curry's contract to lock up finals MVP Igudola and the Spurs were able to benefit from the wealth of international scouting that allowed them to steal Tiago Splitter, Aaron Baynes and Patty Mills.

We keeps bringing up the Spurs but they've hardly stood pat after their championship. When they had a chance at a top 15 big they took Aldridge. When they could have continued to home grow Baynes they trusted their scouting and signed Boban and David West..

We can not afford to stand pat.

Aberation not the rule,

Aberrations do happen, though. If you can't quite yet become the rule, there's nothing wrong with striving to be the aberration in the meantime.

The thing to remember about 2004, besides the possible semi-resemblance to our Celtics, is how totally certain almost every rational voice in the basketball world was that those Lakers were an unbeatable juggernaut. But no team is unbeatable. We've just demonstrated the ability to beat the Cavs. We've played the Warriors to the edge of victory twice in the last calendar year. No, we're not quite a well-oiled machine. But I'm not sure this team's cohesion is far off from the Spurs. Should we stand pat and not take any risks? Of course not, not if the right opportunity for an upgrade presents itself. And there's still plenty to upgrade. But hey, guess what, even if we only had a 5% chance of upsetting the Cavs and Spurs/Warriors, things that only have a 5% chance of happening do still happen sometimes...about 5 out of 100 times, lol. Longshots sometimes win. We at least have a horse in the race, and there are only about six or seven other horses. We have momentum, grit, balls, cohesion, depth, health (knock on wood), good offense, great defense, excellent guidance, underrated talent, and -- based on Jae's words -- confidence. Why not us? Well, there are probably 10-15 great reasons why not, lol. But don't fall into the trap of confusing expected outcomes with what actually unfolds in the real world. Anything is possible, in the stirring KG sense. In the literal Dumb & Dumber "So you're saying..." sense, too, sure, i.e., no one wants to be a fool seduced by the extremely improbable. But be careful not to overlook that anything might be plausible for this team, too. Part of the joy of being a fan is getting to be a little irrationally exuberant. Don't let that part be strangled by the weight of Prevailing Wisdom and Spreadsheet Logic.

We aren't winning this year without sacrificing our future a bit. We stand pat today the best we can hope for is a 1st round victory, maybe a 2nd round victory if it's not the Cavs.

Without a trade we will have zero chance beating the Cavs 5v8 this year.  We had to get absurdly lucky to beat them a few weeks ago.

no we are not winning this year, and thats ok.
the team is surpassing expectations again, building confidence and building value.

Unless an absolute steal occurs i don't think its time to move any of our core pieces yet.
if we can move peripheral players and non nets picks in a move that consolidates or upgrades then I'm all for it but for now
Crowder, Smart, IT, Bradley are pretty much untouchable. Oly, Turner and Amir should only go for a significant upgrade of talent and maintains continuity of temperament.
Its the culture that this team has built which has gotten us to where we are, its these 7 players who exemplify that culture and turn it into wins.

Love the attitude, even though it's not really accurate.  But I'm glad to hear players thinking this way.

What's the obverse of "the grass is always greener on the other side"? The grass is always patchier and browner on our side? If this exact same team with the exact same record were wearing different uniforms with a different city on them, we'd be sucking our teeth in envy over such a rapid successful rebuild and we'd be expecting them to beat any team in the East except Cleveland but we'd be busy conjuring up ways the team could plausibly surprise-topple Cleveland, including the last win, which instead of seeing as an absurdly lucky win we'd be seeing as a statement victory on the road, the luck at the end merely making up for the sizable lead we had taken late in the 4th and then blew at the last minute.

i think the chemistry of the team will suffer if/when we get a 20 million dollar "star".
