How about we get rid of the pick swap in 2017 and Lee for Lopez with a wink wink deal that they cut JJ?

If they want to rebuild this sort of lets them do this as they can tank out next year. For this year they would suck even more but they would save money. Lopez is a risk but he is playing well and healthy now. Even if he gets hurt before his contract we likely won;t be able to use all the cap space we will have anyways.

No one getting traded to us is likely as there are so many players and it's so hard to make trades, but they more I think about it, the more I think Lopez has to be one of the more likely guys to get traded to Boston. The same way Lee for Wallace just seemed likely becasue it made sense for both teams

I think Brooklyn wants Calipari. I think this is great, he is not a good coach.

Calipari said something along the lines of "I have the best coaching job in the world".  This is not saying he wouldn't consider a GM position.  My initial reaction to this was they are considering Calipari for the GM like Phil Jackson.  Then he can hire whoever he wants to be coach.  If I was Calipari, I wouldn't leave Kentucky to coach the Nets either, even if I had player control or whatever.  GM seems like a higher paid, less demanding job.

It seems to me that so much of what makes Calipari great is going to be useless in the NBA.

My personal nightmare is that they hire Thibs. Even he can't turn this team around quickly, but he can certainly keep them out of the gutter

Yeah, Thibs is pretty much the worst case scenario for keeping Lopez healthy.  He would guarantee another major injury
I'm bitter.

Trying to keep Lopez healthy is going to be a losing battle for just about anyone. More broadly speaking, the Nets under Thibodeau would gut out a lot of wins that they don't have the stones for now. His defenses have all played super physical, without fail, and there have been plenty of times that another team has dropped a meaningless game and noped it right out of Boston or Chicago because they didn't want to get gooned in the doldrums of the regular season. For we who want the Nets to be terrible instead of merely bad, that's not a good direction.

Of course keeping him healthy is difficult for any coach, but one notorious for playing his starters 35+ minutes per game is gonna have a much harder time than any other coach.  I can't see Lopez staying healthy for the rest of the year with Thibs

New Team Motto: The Brooklyn Nets, where merely being bad isn't good enough.

I do agree with you. My point is more actuarial. I think Thibs will definitely trade Lopez's health for wins. In fact, I think he'll use him up completely.

My point is that he'll get more wins out of the transaction than Hollins or just about any other coach would.

What would that look like? Maybe Lopez plays 35 minutes a night between now and March, the Nets go .500 in that span, and then he breaks down. The Nets finish the season 30-52 and slot 7th in the draft, whereas with a gentler coach they'd have gone 24-58 and slot 4th.

I quite like that trade. Gives us a presence in the paint and ensures that they will not make "winning" moves this year!

I don't see any way possible the Nets go .500 the rest of the way. Lopez is a good player, but is he really any more effective than a guy like IT4? He is a center, but he doesn't rebound. We, as C's fans, are so afraid that the Nets may begin turning it on after each win the get, but they are still a really really bad team...no matter who the coach is.

Not actually what I said, though. I was saying that, were they to hire Thibodeau, they might be able to put together a .500 month or two mid-season. They've got lots of winnable games on the schedule if they are playing hard and well coached.
