I don't think that this changes things much.  I don't think a new coach or GM can do much with the team and the situation that they have.

Trade Lopez or Young?  I guess if they could get a major haul of top picks and young players but that sets them back.  They might never draft a player better than Lopez.  I don't see them trading either of these guys no matter who the GM is.

I think they would trade Johnson (I know I would) but I am not sure they can get anything for him except other bad contracts (like Tyson Chandler).

If I was BRK, I would keep my good players (Lopez and Young) let Johnson expire, and over pay for a coach and GM that can attract (overpay for) some free agents.

There were/are higher-ups w/in Nets who thought team could be decent this year. Nets need someone who recognizes despair of reality.

Maybe Larbrd is a Nets' executive? :)

It's been a bad year for him. His two favorite teams have really struggled. The Sixers replaced their GM and now this news for the Nets. I kind of feel bad for him.

Make no mistake, this is not good news.  Surprised as many people think this might be a good thing.

Mark it down, the Nets will go on a mini win streak.  Eventually they will come down to earth but those few wins may be the difference.
would you care to explain how and why the nets will suddenly start winning games? was hollins so bad a coach that he held them back this season? is someone going to step up and take over jack's role?

let's bet and see. if the nets go 7-3 or better over the next 10 games, i owe you a tp. if not, i get one. heck, i'll even give you odds if you want.  ;D
How about 6-4?
done! the bet is on. 6-4 by the nets, or better, and you get a free tp.  ;D

why don't you guys spice up the bet... one free TP is not spicy enough. How about the loser gives up ten TPs. This can be arranged with the mods. LOL

Yeah, they are in a tough spot. Anything they do to help, helps us too.

They really need to aquire as many picks and as much cap room as they can. But it will also give us a division rival a great pick.

But they aren't winning anything as is.

Have heard same. As I said on my pod w/ @WindhorstESPN, had heard Nets were kicking around Joe for players/$

After talking to multiple people within Nets, it's unclear who would be answering the phones if a team called. One way to not make a move.

Can the Nets steal Walton from GSW mid season?

The Nets truly have no idea what they're doing.

This is perfect. New GM will come in and realize they are bare to the bone and try and trade Lopez/Thad Young to picks.  That also buys the new GM some time as well.

Still ticked off at those two Nets losses however.
new gm might also come in and make a couple moves to help them win.

Not really.  They'd have nothing to trade except for the aforementioned Lopez and Thad Young

Joe Johnson is still a capable shooter that could be very valuable to a contender in a reserve role.  He has $25M coming off the books.  The Nets could take on a lot of salary coming back and nab either a future pick or a serviceable player that could work for them...sort of like the KG for Thad deal last year.

Dude seriously? Joe Johnson sucks. Let's call a spade a spade.

He's the single worst contract in Pro Sports by a mile.

Please purpose A JJ trade that makes any sense. You can't.

Please understand I am not saying that Johnson is a good player anymore.  I said is a 'capable shooter' who could be valuable to a team.  His expiring deal makes a trade for his horrible contract much easier to swallow, no matter what you do with him.

The Celtics took on David Lee this year.  Say what you want about whether he deserves to play more, but his contract is worse for a guy who gets DNPs.  Why did Danny do that?  Because he had an even worse contract in Gerald Wallace.

There are bad contracts everywhere in the NBA, and bad teams too. So here is a trade that could work:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jom9wqy

The Lakers are going nowhere and Joe Johnson keeps them there.  But at least he is a veteran presence and maybe he could share some insights to their young players.  And LA sheds even more salary for next season free agent season.

The Nets get a look at Hibbert (back in the East) for the remainder of the season.  Makes even more sense if they trade Lopez.  They take Swaggy P off of the Lakers hands for the rest of eternity.  He will at least entertain the 3,000 people in the stands.

Joe Johnson is still good as long as you don't expect great defense from him. He can still score 1 on 1 against many sfs in the league. Those floaters are annoyingly accurate

The Johnson for Morris/Chandler deal is intriguing. However, to me it only makes sense if you're going to end up selling off Lopez and Young for picks, because Chandler and Morris would ultimately end up being backups for Lopez and Young due to neither Young nor Morris being able to play the 3 full time (reliably anyways). Plus, that just kills cap space even more for them since they're trading an expiring for two longer term contracts.

I still say something like Lee and Jerebko for JJ would work. It'd end up saving them some money, and JJ would be a nice backup wing for us, especially in crunch time.

I think Luke stays to get his ring, he just about has the next HC position locked with this 2 loss start.
