Here are some sure to be unpopular trade proposals that I think are realistic. I have not matched salaries perefectly because it would take too much time, but the principals would stay the same.

1.

Isaiah Thomas, Dallas 2016 1st rounder > Bucks
Jabari Parker, Milwaukee 2016 1st rounder > Celtics

The Bucks desperately need shooting and Kidd is the type of GM who would make a win-now move despite their horrible record. I wouldn't necessarily want to do this deal, I just think it's something that could realistically happen.

The Bucks GM is still John Hammond, who I should think would be smart enough not to make a short sighted move of this nature.

Also, why do you have the Bucks giving up so much more value in that trade than the Celts?  Higher value player asset (due to potential), plus a much better pick.

Really? I thought Kidd got full control of basketball operations. I guess you're right. For some reason I thought he weaseled his way out of Brooklyn specifically because he would get more power in Milwaukee.

My thinking was that Parker's value has dropped, they have a log jam at SF, they lack shooting, and Thomas' value has risen. I added the picks later because I figured that although Parker has a higher ceiling, he also has more risk. Also, Thomas is on a great deal that isn't much more than Parker's and he's only just turning 26 next month.

Anyway, most of my thinking was based on the idea that Kidd would be impatient. I guess that's out the window.

Serge Ibaka for Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk:

Thunder: Finally solve their problem at the two with AB, who's a perfect fit for their team. He's also under team control for two more years at a very low price, which a team like OKC, which has been hesitant to spend in the past, will appreciate. KO can play some of Ibaka's minutes and still offer the floor-stretching that Ibaka offers at the four

Celtics: We get an outstanding two-way player who fits very well in our system. He's not quite a star, but Ibaka is a really excellent, young player. We also clear up some of the logjams in the front and back courts.

It will be really interesting to see how OKC responds to not winning this year. To see if they start to consider making Ibaka available for a trade.

Almost unthinkable in the past ... but you get the feeling there is more desperation there now.

That time is running down on them. To make that next jump and to be a title winner.

... and also that Presti does not have a good plan how to make that happen.

I don't think they can possibly afford to move Ibaka now that they've committed long term to Kanter.  Gotta have a shot-blocker / rim protector who can also space the floor a bit.  If they trade Ibaka they'd need to get back somebody who can take over that role.  Kelly Olynyk is not that.

They haven't really committed to Kanter yet. They gave the money but he is only playing 20mpg and is not even starting. Not committing playing time to Kanter. Not giving him a large role in the team. Not committing to an Ibaka + Kanter starting big man pairing.

Kanter looks more likely to be on his way out than a long term fixture there.

I would love to see OKC play a D'Antoni style offense with Ibaka at center and Kevin Durant at PF. That could be a lot of fun.

When I've watched they do seem to go small some of the time with that lineup.  That's what I would do, get your best players on the floor.  Question is, is Waiters better than Adams/Kanter?

I think Cam can play the 2 for them when they go slow, question is who can play the 3? Maybe Morrow. I hope they get rid of Dion, he is poison to that team.

"On his way out" assumes they could ever trade that contract.  I think they're kinda stuck with him.  Or do you think somebody would trade for him?

Trouble with this is that Ibaka is not nearly the interior finisher that Amare was at his best.  Durant is obviously a spectacular offensive talent, but I think you'd give up a lot on the boards and inside by using Durant and Ibaka as your primary pairing in the frontcourt.

Not sure if this is the case, but if  OKC is sour on Kanter long-term and want to dump his contract, would you take it on to acquire Ibaka?

Would you do something like:
BOS gets: Kanter, Ibaka
OKC gets: Lee, Johnson, Olynyk, 2016 Boston first

Nah, they need better wings to make it work.

Not an option for this season. More for the future if they decide to move Ibaka to center (which I would like to see happen).

Definitely. I like the potential of a Kanter - Ibaka big man starting duo.

Yeah, definitely. Players with his combination of size and skill-level offensively .... there will always be somebody willing to take a bet on Kanter. Especially with the cap going up.

They won't get much for him but he is definitely movable.

I could be wrong, but I would think that Kanter would be a negative asset despite his youth and size because he's signed for so much money for the next 3 years. It at the very least seems like there's a big risk he never improves in the term of his current deal. It seems like he's at the age where big men either take over or flame out.

Kanter is kind of a center version of Ryan Anderson.  Wonderful asset to have on offense, but he gives a lot of it back on defense, and unlike Ryno he doesn't space the floor very well.  If you play him more than 20 minutes a so per night, you're gonna have a tough time putting together a decent defense.

I understand he's young and productive and most of the time that means there'd be a team out there willing to take a chance, but it's hard to see anybody having the willingness to pay all that money to a bench guy.

Yeah, we talked about Josh Smith for years here at CB - even after Detroit signed him, there were plenty here who were willing to give up something to pair him with Rajon. But then, everything fell apart in Detroit and they spent WAY too much buying him out. I am not saying this is definitely going to happen with Kanter, but he is my top candidate for buyer's remorse in the coming years. He is decent offensively, but may be quite literally the worst defensive player in the league.

Boston sends Bradley Jerebko while Orlando sends Oladipo and Frye. I would be willing to throw them the Dallas first this year and a future Boston pick
