I don't think he will do it. Under 40 % again this year.

He has improved his game for sure in many aspects, but if he continues to shoot like this , he won't become much.

This is Wildly premature.   Let the guy play a few games before jumping on him.

He's only played 11 games this year.  Maybe he gets it together.

But so far he's been a terrible offensive player.

First half last year:  6.8 points 37%/35%/67%
Second half last year:  9.1 points 37%/32%/63%
This year:  8.9 points, 33%/24%/69%

He was even pretty awful in Summer league... he averaged 16 points, but shot 35% and 28% from three.

In two years of COllege ball he shot 41% with 30% from three.  He's never been a good offensive player.  Coming into the league the knock on him was that he was able to just use his size to bully people to the hoop, but that he'd struggle to do that on this level.   I'm holding out hope that he develops into a competent Rodney Stuckey-esque offensive player, but I don't think it's a lock.

It was a question , followed up by my opinion... Why are you getting defensive?

He has shot above 40% twice this season.  Most recently last year on November 15th against Russell Westbrook.

Forget about shooting 40% for a season... when do you think he'll have his next above 40% shooting game?

Smart has improved.

But to give an example, Bruce Bowen was in all respects a terrible offensive player, shot the 3 ball well with the SPURS, overall shot about 40%+ with them, but shot 38%+ from 3 for a lot of the time.

If you want to use him as a barometer, go ahead, and say hey Bowen did it , then you will realize your talking about Bruce Bowen.

But that could become the sad truth.

All i know and especially in today's game, you could be a very good intangible player but if you cant shoot well, or get to the basket well consistently you wont be much in this league, you will either be out of the league or given chances and at best become a journey man type.

theres no doubt that smart is an elite defensive role player. He's got a future as a tony Allen or Bruce Bowen at the very least.   Title teams always have a use for solid defenders.

What's questionable is whether smart will ever develop a competent enough offensive game to be a two-way player.

Marcus Smart over the last 10 games (since 1/15):

13.2 points, 3.7 ast, 5 reb, 2.1 steals, 0.5 blocks, 3.3 FTA, 42.9% FG, 34.7% 3P, 78.8% FT, 29.4 minutes

This is more like what I thought we'd see this year.  Really hope he keeps it up.

Bradley's shooting is the bigger problem.
He has an injured hand.

Read that last line again. One more time.

big thing for him is that he gets to the line more consistantly and converts at a better rate.
Last year he got most of his FT's by getting fouled shooting threes.

He's finally healthy. That's the simplest explanation at least.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

If Smart can finish the year over 400, after his start, he will certainly be on track to be a future all star.

Agree totally. He has the body to drive hard and get fouled. And is a decent foul shooter.

TP!!
