I'm only assuming that both teams will be in the playoffs, so we'll basically have 2 picks within the 15-30 range. If we do not trade these picks away (however unlikely), here are some prospects that I think would be worth grabbing. I know that the common strategy at this range is Best Player Available, but I think it has to be Best Offensive Potential Available.
CBS has taught defense very well, and his schemes can be taught to a young player that lacks defense. We've even seen strides made from James Young, possibly the worst college defender I saw in that draft.
The ideal draft profile for me would be:
- Natural Scorer/Shooter
- At least an above-average athlete; elite would be nice
- Between 6'6 - 6'9
- Preferably a Wing/Swing for Brad
- No more small guards, PLEASE
Players that fit some or most of this profile, in my big-board order:
- Furkan Kormaz - Score-first lanky player with a good shot
- Timothe Luwawu - The physical profile of Kawhi Leonard, with a good 3pt shooting %
- Denzel Valentine - Swiss army knife player from the rugged MSU pedigree
- Dwayne Bacon - Elite athlete with average shot
- Caris Lavert - Experienced playmaker and scorer
I just gave a quick line about each player's strengths, but definitely check out some better draft profiles on them. I think there is solid value at this part of the lottery.
