No way, Butler is really good--but not worth Simmons...he's like D.Wade to LeBron....LeBron being Simmons of course....Butler would be your 2nd best player...Simmons would be your best.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

No way would you take Butler over the potential of Big Ben.

Jimmy had his chance Even Mark Whalberg tried to recruit him to Boston. You had your chance Jimmy!

Jimmy should have came as a FA he blew it.

He was restricted and the Bulls came out and offered him the max immediately....so he really had no choice in the matter.
That isn't true he could have said no. But its a business first so I don't blame him for taking the $. Just aren't giving up a 1-5 range pick for him to escape chicago now lol

The Bulls offering the max communicated that they would match any offer. If Butler had declined the Bulls' extension, he would have presumably agreed to a max with another team (that would have been less lucrative than the Bulls' offer due to CBA parameters for team-switching free agents) and still ended up on the Bulls anyway.

yes if their situation is blowing it up or rebuilding and have years left on his contract. But with their current situation, Jimmy might leave in Free Agency, so therefore no. I'd use that 1st pick (Simmons), and wait for Jimmy to come as a FA.

i'm not sold on giving up a shot at the number 1 but how about this

to boston
butler and noah

to chicago
lee, smart, young, jerebko, dallas pick and 2017 NJ pick swap rights (TOP 5 PROTECTED)

It may seem like a lot but butler is totally a CBS player, hard nosed, competitive (raised by thibs), can score from anywhere and plays d at smart like level.
Noah may be declining but his game also fits the system (a great distributor, still a good rebounder, plays hard nosed d. would match well with any of our bigs.

chicago's championship window is probable closed. this trade kickstarts their rebuild with multiple picks, young talent and expiring contracts.

Post script: I thought about a 3 team with Howard going to chicago and Noah going to Houston, butler to boston but I couldn't make it work on the trade checker.

TP's for anyone who can put together a viable Hou/bos/Chicago deal with these players as principles

jimmy B just signed a 4 year contract with the Bulls.

ah thanks for clarifying that...I think I will gamble with the #1 pick. We haven't gotten the #1 pick in decades, I would love to draft Simmons with the #1 pick and groom him to be our superstar

Looking downrange, we'd have to ask ourselves these questions, I think:

1. By landing Simmons, is Simmons ALONE (with the team AS IS) - good enough to get us out
of the Eastern Conference next year? Is he REALLY going to be as good as Lebron James was
    in his FIRST year?

2. By Landing Simmons, is SIMMONS ALONE enough to draw a top FA here next year? Just on
    his POTENTIAL alone?

3. By landing SIMMONS (and making NO OTHER moves) - how far are we going to go with him
and how long are we willing to wait for his development?

With those questions in "my" mind, I'd welcome Simmons to BOS then promptly ship him to CHI
for Jimmy B.

Incorrect see Greg Monroe. If Butler wanted out he could have done what Monroe did.

I'm terrible at identifying viable trade packages, but the 2016 Nets pick, Lee expiring for salary plus what else gets Butler?    I love Butler.  Aside from Simmons, who else is a can't miss in the draft?   Butler is bona fide star (an absolute can't miss) and only 26.  I'd feel the same way about James Harden, though I like Butler more overall.

Why would Chicago let him go?

So Butler should have played for a few million this season to come play for us? Why the [heck] would he do that?
I'm bitter.
