What do you think? I still see him as a poor man's Dirk who isn't going to have the consistency or upside at his best.  I miss the days of Kevin Mchale when players would work each offseason and add another wrinkle to their game.  Bigs also aren't really allowed to play physical anymore either, but Kelly has definately been more consistant using his dribble to get to the basket cutting and finding holes in the defense and knocking down 3's.   He's also just being more aggressive just taking shots which is probably the biggest factor.

KO is like Bradley to me though. He has the talent and isn't really limited as far as his body. It really comes down to work ethic.  Bradley has improved each season and KO can do the same.

Even though I'd like to say Dirk, I won't ;D!
I think that the best case scenario for Olynyk would be a taller Luis Scola.
Worst case would probably be somewhere in the line of Spencer Hawes or Andrea Bargnani.

The celtics in general do a great job of drafting players off of a certain formula and letting them improve each season.  A lot of fans would have destroyed guys like Bradley, KO and Sully before they even got a chance.  This is where the celtics differ imo the most from other teams is they teach good basketball, draft well and remain loyal to their own smarts.  Stevens is really excellent at this in particular.  Still would like to see Mchale make a return here and work with a guy like KO.

DA drafted KO and obviously saw something in him when he traded up to get him.  Bradley was the same thing.  Most people want a quick fix which the celtics are smarter than that.  I still see great things in store for KO.

19 PPG, 8 RPG, 4 APG, .450/.385/.850 as an All Star starting power forward on a title contender.

I think that's his upside.  I hope to see him get there.

He has no inside game, none. Until he can be a force in the block at both ends, he's irrelevant. There are a hundred guys with his skill set at the moment..

The problem is being one dimensional. When the shots don't fall he gives you very little..

Kelly is a X factor.  A seven footer who can play on exterior, handle the ball, drive and shoot threes.  But he still can rebound and plays smart team defense.  I personally love him off bench with some offense running through him.  Ceiling 17 ppg 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 1 block per game.

ok, i'll bite. please provide us with a list that (1) is remotely close to 100, and, (2) includes players with his skill sets in shooting, scoring, assists, and defense...and of course some stats to back all this up would be very appreciated.

without the above, your loyal readers can only assume you pulled this out of your butt.  ;D

oh and on the bolded point above on olly having no inside game, last season olly made 258 baskets. of those, 161 were from in the paint. that means 62.4% of his baskets were inside.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

You know he can't name 100, but that was hyperbole -- he meant "many".  But I dont think he could name too many.  Kelly isn't a force in the league or anywhere near a top 4/5, but his skill-set for a 7-footer is not a dime a dozen.   To his point about no inside game, Kelly has been driving much more skillfully and effectively double-clutching near the near to create lay-in looks for himself.  2 years ago he lost the ball on virtually every drive.  Getting more adept also at movign toward the ball on rebounds, though he still has difficulty holding onto boards in traffic.

I always thought KO's upside was Ryan Anderson. But the other night he literally walked all over Anderson on both ends.  KO is more physical

Maybe like a Josh Mcroberts with a touch of Dirk.

Kelly is what he is.  A really useful offensive weapon to have on the bench, better defensively than you'd expect, does a lot of little things to help the team win.  Don't worry about getting more than that out of him.  He'll have big games sometimes.  He's not a go-to option.

I'm thinking more like Shemp.  Maybe Curly...but not Moe.

I see him becoming a Ryan Anderson type. Anderson was limited in Orlando (less than KO) but once Dwight and Gortat left he went off. Similar stats now in NO. Just not the passer that KO is.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

I think he has a little Brad Miller in him, maybe not as physical but more mobile.
