I'm going to say no, simply because I think we draft someone at his position with the Nets pick this year.

He will be a rotation player but I don't see him as a starter long term, with all the picks the C's have to strengthen their roster.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

This is all assuming he is still with the team next year. The Celtics might have to bring in three more first round draft picks next summer. There could be a roster crunch and I think Young could be filler in a larger trade just to open roster space for players that may have higher upside.

I want so much for Young to make it on this team, but I just don't see it happening with who is in front of him and who may be coming in next year. The Celtics may have room for only one SG prospect on the roster and that player should probably be Hunter who shows all around better game than Young.

Is Nic Batum a good comparison?
If you think Young will average close to 5 apg for 4 years in a row in his prime, then it probably is.

With what team?

I'm not really seeing it with the Celtics.  This guy has fully inherited the title "Mr. Potential" following in the footsteps as such illustrious names as Joe Forte, Gerald Green, & JR Giddens.

I hope he can become as good of a shooter like CJ Miles is for the Pacers. Till then the guy needs to learn how to be more coordinated and learn to score when isolated.

Miles is more of a sg. Doesn't have the length to be a sf

I see Young as a slightly better Kobe.

2015 Kobe that is.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Below are highlights of the best game he played last season (scored 13pts). I'm sure many here remember.

He raised his intensity at the crucial part of the game.  Nice to see from a rookie.

He played very good defense last night.  His athleticism and length was apparent.

He has nice form on his jump shot.  And his bread and butter offensive move could be the dribble, stop and pop. Could be difficult to guard

Is Young that starting SF the Celts have been looking for? (not at this moment, but starting next season for example).

not anytime soon from what I can see.  it'd be great if he can develop his game to that point say by the end of next season.  I think anything more than developing into a rotation player by next training camp is a bit of an overreach

When I look at James Young, I see James Worthy.

Give him a new haircut, 3 more inches, 10 more pounds, a 21+ PPG average in 143 playoff games, 3 rings, and put him in a Lakers uniform and I'd agree 100%.

Young needs more touches on the offensive end

Hah. I can honestly say he did just fine when his number was called these last two games. Important minutes tonight. Didn't see that coming. Maybe he will challenge Hunter for mins.

james came in and travelled, his defence is a step behind still,he hit a couple shots but i would have  experimented with jerebco  on floor-james is still a defensive liability and camps out in corner but did corral a couple of defensive rebounds--i didn't think celts moved the ball enough

I think right now they are trying to find out if he is a capable rotation player. Not sure he would be getting these minutes if Hunter was healthy. I wish I could say yes. :-\

I don't post a lot... But I think you are being way to hard on him. His defense over the last two games has not been a step behind. He out in a really good understands performance last night. The camping out in the corner isn't James young. That's a game plan position he is taking up. Once they started the ball movement, he was running off picks and looking to get involved.

I'm not sure he is a starter in this team because of the massive amount of assets they have and the cap space. That being said, if he stays here, eventually he becomes a 15 plus a game scorer that will play good defense while being an above average rebounder for his position. He has a lot of good things going for him and he's 20.
