Only good thing about the Celtics loss is that the Mavericks drop to #8 seed. Now we just need to cheer hard for the Jazz.

Jazz up 14 at home in the 3rd.  Go Jazz.
and for those of you keeping score at home, stop it.

oh, the jazz won tonight. dallas is in a three way tie for the 8th playoff spot i think.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Dallas is only 2 games away from having the 12th pick, that would be awesome.

This is getting real guys! Theres a huge difference between pick 12 and pick 16. If the Mavs lose their next game to Charlotte they could really be in free fall.

Next 6 games:

@Charlotte
@Cleveland
Golden State
Portland
@Portland
@Golden State

The mavericks have shown they can lose to bad teams too. Fingers crossed

I don't think they should be favored in any of them... And could lose all of them. Law of averages say they won't but man that's a tough schedule.

Is it worth it to move up from 15 to 12 and then have a 2.5% chance of losing out on the pick if the Mavs strike lotto gold?  I'm not sure I know the answer to that question myself.  If they get 15, at least there won't be added stress on lotto night.

I definitely think it's worth it.

I'd rather use the Dallas pick next year.

Easily worth it, it's not as if we will lose the pick, it will just be a dream deferred. Give us the best possible pick Mavs! How long does Dirk's career last after this season? Mavs will probably be in this area next season too if he doesn't retire. I'd chance it for 12th even if it means next seasons pick will be 18th or so if it rolls. The pick is gravy on Jae, I want to play dice with 12! Yes, I know if Mavs jump up it could mean we/bkn jump back but I'm not worried, what will be will be! I'll be happy with 15 too because that's what I think it will be, Utah fell off too much after ASB.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Like someone mentioned in the Murray thread, I'd rather package our pick and Dallas pick (and whatever second rounders they want) to try to move up to a spot to take Murray. I'd use a top 5 pick on him, personally, but if he can be had for 2 firsts and some seconds, I'm all for it too.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

The best part of having these draft picks are all the win-win games that pop up as the season goes along. I've compiled a list of these games just to demonstrate why we have good reason to be optimistic for both the Nets and Mavs 1st rounders.

Inclusion criteria: For a team to be included the Celtics need to benefit in some way from them winning. Teams that are unlikely to reach the Mavericks or Nets in the standings were excluded (i.e. 76ers, Lakers, Nuggets, Bucks)

Teams Included: Boston, Phoenix, Minnesota, Portland, Utah, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Memphis, Washington

Note: Memphis is up on Dallas by a large margin. However, they've lost Conley, Gasol and Chalmers. It would be nice to see them win a few more, and they match-ups should be considered 'likely wins' for whoever they face.

Total Number of win-win games remaining: 25 (every game is listed twice)

Phoenix:
2 games vs. Minnesota
2 games vs. Jazz
1 game vs. Washington
1 game vs. Houston
1 game vs. Memphis

Minnesota:
2 games vs. Phoenix
2 games vs. Houston
2 games vs. Jazz
1 game vs. Memphis
1 game vs. Washington
1 game vs. Portland

Portland:
1 game vs. Boston
1 game vs. Minnesota

Utah:
2 games vs. Phoenix
2 games vs. Minnesota
1 game vs. Houston
1 game vs. Chicago

Boston:
1 game vs. Phoenix
1 game vs. Minnesota
1 game vs. Portland

Chicago:
1 game vs. Washington
1 game vs. Jazz
1 game vs. Houston
1 game vs. Detroit
1 game vs. Memphis

Detroit:
1 game vs. Chicago
2 games vs. Washington

Houston:
1 game vs. Memphis
1 game vs. Phoenix
2 games vs. Minnesota
1 game vs. Utah
1 game vs. Chicago

Memphis:
1 game vs. Houston
1 game vs. Minnesota
1 game vs. Phoenix
1 game vs. Chicago

Washington:
2 games vs. Detroit
1 game vs. Chicago
1 game vs. Minnesota
1 game vs. Phoenix

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following match-ups are not considered Win-win games. But they are teams that typically lose and would likely be W's for the teams i've listed above (except Boston).

Total # of games: 15

76ers:
1 game vs. Detroit
1 game vs. Washington
1 game vs. Chicago
1 game vs. Portland

Lakers:
2 games vs. Phoenix
2 games vs. Utah
1 game vs. Memphis
1 game vs. Houston
1 game vs. Washington

Nets:
1 game vs. Chicago
1 game vs. Detroit
2 games vs. Washington

Also important: Dallas has 0 games against these 3 teams. Dallas will face Minnesota 1 more time this season

I worry about Dallas getting better next year as they are always an attractive FA destination due to no state income taxes and first rate facilities - Cuban treats the players like kings. I'd like to get the pick this year.
