Nets are two down 8 to go to get the 0-10 I predicted.

5.5 games ahead of the Sixers 2 games ahead of the Lakers... I'm hoping this nose dive continues big time

Did the cavs have a lot of injured or resting players? How did they only win by 13? Was it usually a big lead and a bunch of coasting or was it close most of the way?

Everybody played 30 minutes or fewer for the Cavs. They coasted.

Thanks, I usually dvr or watch all of their games, I just don't feel like watching it this time.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Mega TPs if that turns out to be correct. Heck, I'll even take 1-9.

Friday night is one of the only two games in the next eight that I am worried about, SAC being the other one. If the Nets manage to pull off the loss against Utah, I'll be quite pleased.

ETA: Ouch, didn't realize what bad shape the Heat are in and that's the second half of a BTB. Root for health.

Plus Brooklyn keeps their margins closer by slowing the game down.  Cleveland isn't the most up-tempo team so they obliged.  Brooklyn couldn't crack 80 but they kept it to a "respectable" margin.

Anthony Davis not getting an All-Star fan vote nod is big news, because due to the Derrick Rose Rule, he stands to make an extra $23 million dollars if he hits certain milestones.  Those being a fan voted All-Star start, two All-NBA teams or MVP.  With the Pelicans sitting at 14-27 (which is only 3 games up on the Nets), he will have to start winning now or personally miss out on a ton of cash.

Since forwards and centers are combined for 3 front court spots now, it means that he has to be a top 9 forward or center in the league.  I'd say that it looks like this right now:

Clear Top 6: LeBron, Kawhi, Draymond Green, Paul George, Kevin Durrant, Andre Drummond.

So that's 1st and 2nd team with no chance for the Brow to break in.

He has to beat out one of these guys then:

7.) Pau Gasol
8.) LaMarcus Aldridge
9.) DeMarucs Cousins

Plus, there is Milsap, Love, Whiteside, Blake, Tim Duncan, Zaza, Dirk, Greek Freak, Porzingis, KAT, Melo and Bosh that are all going to seriously merit a spot.

I think that the Pelicans need to go at least .500 for the rest of the season or he's not making it. They're currently beating the Pistons tonight, I'd say they're looking like they'll pull away.  The Lakers and Sixers might even catch the Nets at this pace, but the Wolves and Suns are both pretty bad.  At least I think we can discount the Pelicans as of now, though.

interesting post, but you might have placed in the wrong thread.  :P
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Nope, right thread.  It's completely about a team that is around the Nets in the standings having an incentive to not tank.

i think he qualified for the rose rule last off season, as he signed a contract extension per the rose rule.

Nope, he's gotta make one of the All-NBA teams.  Here is a quote I just found:

The looming effect of the voters’ choice is that it could potentially cost Davis from reaching the threshold necessary to reach the “Derrick Rose Rule” in his contract extension signed this offseason.

If Davis fails to make the postseason All-NBA team (first, second or third versions), his salary will drop from 30 percent of the cap to 25 percent, which could cost him as much as $25 million over the next five years.

He’s still likely to reach the All-Star Game when the league’s coaches vote on the reserves.

“I would be (disappointed if Davis isn’t named a starter),” Gentry said prior to the announcement. “That’s kind of part of it. What has happened this year, is it’s the year of Kobe for sure and he’s going to get a ton of votes. I just think to play in the game is an honor…I think AD will be fine.”

http://theadvocate.com/sports/latestsports/14643691-148/pelicans-star-anthony-davis-doesnt-make-all-star-vote-in-wester-conference-lineup

Also to be clear: just making the All-Star game as a reserve or injury replacement doesn't count.  He has to be voted a starter.

I don't think there is any way the Nets now finish with anything past the 5th worst pick and they will most likely finish 3rd worst.  I don't think they could make 6th worst even if they sign Conley at the deadline.

If Utah beats Nets tomorrow the Nets may lose their next seven. That may be the end of their fighting spirit.

Unlike the All-Star game, the All-NBA teams still have the frontcourt positions broken out between forwards and centers, though there is a huge amount of voter discretion so players like Davis or Aldridge or Duncan can be voted in at F or C.

Not sure if that'll hurt him or help him though.  He could be 3rd Team C after Drummond and Cousins, or maybe Aldridge gets voted 3rd team C opening up a forward spot?  There's a lot of ways that can play out.  He still has a good shot of making an All-NBA team though.

Oooh that's even better, because Anthony Davis is a PF.  Asik is listed as their starting C everywhere, too.  That means that Davis has to beat someone, and this is how I see the first 5: Lebron, George, Kawhi, Durant, Draymond.  That leaves LMA, Trillsap, Dirk, Love, Greek Freak, Melo, Blake Griffin and Batum to duke it out with the Brow.  I think LMA has a slight edge over Davis and Davis has a slight edge over Milsap.
