Anthony Davis not getting an All-Star fan vote nod is big news, because due to the Derrick Rose Rule, he stands to make an extra $23 million dollars if he hits certain milestones. Those being a fan voted All-Star start, two All-NBA teams or MVP. With the Pelicans sitting at 14-27 (which is only 3 games up on the Nets), he will have to start winning now or personally miss out on a ton of cash.
Since forwards and centers are combined for 3 front court spots now, it means that he has to be a top 9 forward or center in the league. I'd say that it looks like this right now:
Clear Top 6: LeBron, Kawhi, Draymond Green, Paul George, Kevin Durrant, Andre Drummond.
So that's 1st and 2nd team with no chance for the Brow to break in.
He has to beat out one of these guys then:
7.) Pau Gasol
8.) LaMarcus Aldridge
9.) DeMarucs Cousins
Plus, there is Milsap, Love, Whiteside, Blake, Tim Duncan, Zaza, Dirk, Greek Freak, Porzingis, KAT, Melo and Bosh that are all going to seriously merit a spot.
I think that the Pelicans need to go at least .500 for the rest of the season or he's not making it. They're currently beating the Pistons tonight, I'd say they're looking like they'll pull away. The Lakers and Sixers might even catch the Nets at this pace, but the Wolves and Suns are both pretty bad. At least I think we can discount the Pelicans as of now, though.
