Side note: I wanted the Celtics to pick him.  Bradley, Smart, RHJ, Crowder, and Amir would have been fun to watch defensively.

Me too. I figured if he could ever become a remotely decent shooter he'd be a really good or even great two-way player, which was an "if" I was willing to bet on.

Oh man, that sucks for Brooklyn, sad to hear. He was just about the only glimmer of hope they had for the future to watch this year, and their most exciting player in general by far. That's gonna hurt them big time. He played a big part in there recent semi-respectability.

Great news for us though. I'd say that just about cements a top-7 or 8 pick. Have a hard time seeing them climbing up towards the 10th pick without RHJ. They really are so thin it's insane. Joe Johnson looks terrible this year, like totally cooked. But if he went down right now, they'd never get out of the bottom 5. I would never wish injury on anyone, but I'd like to see just how bad that team would be without Lopez and RHJ. They could be worse than Philly if that happened.

Just once, the lottery gods need to shine down on us. Simmons is legit .

This is a shame. This can't be a good injury long-term either if you read the links provided earlier. I was high on him or Portis (who apparently id going down to the DLeague).

He was 6th on his team in minutes played at 22+ mpg. Their rotation was very short with only 7 players getting 15+ mpg and their bench past the top 7 sucks.

Have to think RHJ's done for the year.

How long is the recovery?
Recovery can be prolonged. No weight or walking on the leg will be allowed for eight to 12 weeks. Once the bone is healed, exercise and physical therapy is started to maximize the function of the ankle. You should expect some swelling about the foot for several months after the procedure.

This injury can be very debilitating with persistent pain, stiffness and swelling even after an excellent non-surgical or surgical treatment. However, most people, depending on the type and severity of the fracture, are able to return to most work and recreational activities.

Potential Complications
Talus fractures are quite severe injuries and can lead to longstanding problems with the foot and ankle. There are early and late complications.

Early Complications
Early complications are most often related to the significant swelling that can occur after these injuries, which can cause wound problems and infection. People who smoke, diabetics and those with poor circulation are at greatest risk for these complications.

Late Complications
Late complications are typically related to the severity of the initial injury. Most people experience a certain degree of stiffness with the upward and downward motion of the ankle. When the blood supply to the talus is damaged it can lead to death of the bone, a condition called avascular necrosis (AVN). This condition can lead to significant deformity and arthritis and require additional surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will I be out of work?
This is a severe injury. Depending on the type of work performed, most people are unable to return to work for at least two weeks after the injury. Those with active jobs may not be able to return for six months to a year

Too bad he didn't play for the Sixers. He would have been back in about an hour.

No way. If RHJ played for the Sixers, they would have traded him a month ago after seeing the impact he has on the court.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14313405/brooklyn-nets-rookie-rondae-hollis-jefferson-surgery-right-ankle-indefinitely

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets rookie standout Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will undergo surgery this week on his right ankle and is out indefinitely, the team announced.

The injury officially was diagnosed as a non-displaced fracture of the posterior talus in his right ankle. The Nets will announce a timetable for his return after the surgery.

"I was stunned, I was shocked. It's hurtful to be in that situation," said Hollis-Jefferson, who was in much better spirits while talking to reporters Monday. "Trying to be one of the best rookies, working really hard and then you get news like that, you don't really know what to say. You're at a loss for words."

Hollis-Jefferson injured his ankle in practice last week. It was initially called a sprain by the team.

"I was guarding [Bojan Bogdanovic]," Hollis-Jefferson said. "I mean, it just happened. It was a really bad roll."

Hollis-Jefferson, a promising defender, is averaging 5.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. The 20-year-old has made 14 starts this season.

"We're going to miss his physicality, his size, 6-7, his ability to go get rebounds, get hands on the ball," Nets coach Lionel Hollins said. "We're going to miss that. But how much, how bad? We'll have to see as we go along.

Bogdanovic will be tasked with starting in place of Hollis-Jefferson. Bogdanovic is averaging just 4.3 points on 32.1 percent shooting in his past 11 games.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm not saying this for reverse-jinx reasons, or to appear "classy," or anything like that.

As someone who genuinely loves basketball, this is a shame.  Kid is a competitor and if there is a slight cynical tinge to this post, it's because I'm tank watching every Nets game and I enjoy watching him play.  I hope he doesn't have any long term ramifications from this and everything goes smoothly.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Really unfortunate for RHJ - he was my pick before the draft and was bummed he went to the Nets, as I was afraid he would make an immediate impact defensively. Hopefully he can come back strong from this and continue to be a tenacious / effective player.

For us? Well, it can only hurt the Nets. RHJ is a great defensive presence and they don't have a lot of players like that. I guess we can only continue to root against the Nets, but I hate seeing injuries like this.
