I don't think the Nets will play B Lopez or Joe Johnson lots of minutes in a year they have no chance of competing.

they don't own their pick and Johnson is old.  They have no incentive to be bad at all, they have no incentive to shut down, etc.

Yeah, they also have no incentive to run out the legs of some guys getting older. I kinda think they will play these guys just enough to teach younger guys and to showcase them for trades, but not enough to put them in any jeopardy at all of getting hurt or worn down. I don't think they'll make some grand push for the 7 or 8 seed, unless they really think they need the playoff money.

That might be true with Lopez but Joe Johnson doesn't have a future with this team. They've already tried to get rid of him a number of times. They're not going to care about preserving his health for the future.

Yep.  and if they really want to move Lopez they need to show he is healthy and can play 30 minutes a night.  They aren't going to do anything that affects the win total in a negative manner.

For those of you who think going from Williams to Jack won't be bad for the Nets, read this.

Wouldn't it be nice if Deron Williams' leaving the Nets made them bad enough to get us a great pick and made the Mavericks good enough to stay out of the bottom 7? Is Deron Williams the key to the Celtics' future success?

Yeah in fact I'll add one more guy to the discussion. Rajon Rondo. He leaves the Mavericks in the dust after they give up a potential lottery pick for him and joins the Kings, another team in the west who will be fighting for a playoff spot. If he succeeds as a King, that will prevent the Mavericks from getting to the playoffs and thus making that lottery pick all the sweeter.

Remember once upon a time when we debated who was better between Rondo and D-Will? Good times.

they don't own their pick and Johnson is old.  They have no incentive to be bad at all, they have no incentive to shut down, etc.

They also have no incentive to drive their guys into the ground and risk injury in Lopez case, or to make any "win now" moves that will make them marginally better in the short term including not trading Johnson if they get a decent differ for him.

All the moves they made this off season say their biggest interest right now is re-establishing flexibility and acquiring assets that can make them better in the future. If trading Johnson can get them a 1st round pick in return, it seems like they'll do that. If someone makes a pretty good offer for Lopez involving young prospects and/or picks, they'll probably take that too. What they won't do is sacrifice what little flexibility and assets they have left, or turn down the chance to get more, just to give us the worst pick possible out of spite.

Besides, that team is so thin outside the starting 5 (which itself is pretty poor) I really don't see any way they land any higher than the top 10. With Miami healthy, Paul George back, Jefferson healthy in Charlotte, Melo back in NY, plus Orlando and Detroit looking a lot better I'd be surprised if they're even in the conversation for the 8th seed.

I would think an ok young player and a package of 2nd rounders could get J Johnson. Might have to send an expiring or a not great two year contract to make the money work

They don't need flexibility though with the cap increasing and not owning their next 3 first round picks.  Brooklyn has no incentive to be bad.  None at all.  Even if they aren't going to make the playoffs, they have no incentive to give Boston a better pick.  They will try to win every single game for the next 3 years.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Maybe Danny Ainge has Bargani working for us as a double agent?
