Lot of people still seem overly excited about RJ Hunter.  Just for reference, here's a list of undrafted scrubs who put up similar/better stats to RJ Hunter in summer league.  I excluded players who did enough in College to get drafted.

Just a reminder to take summer league success with a grain of salt.

I'm not saying Hunter has no future.  I just wouldn't get overly excited about him putting up 12 points against inferior competition.  He'll probably spend most of his time in D-League this year with the rest of the rooks.

I go by how someone played in SL and he looked like he has a lot of game.

He definitely has a chance to get minutes this year.

You did a mini research project with the primary goal of being a wet blanket for a few excited fans? You must kill at cocktail parties.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me it's not the stats that were meaningful, but how he affected the game when he was on the court (especially on defense, which was seen as a weakness of his going in to the draft)

Summer league numbers mean nothing, and everyone here already knows that.  It's the promise the players show and how they've worked on their weaknesses that are important to see.

Edit: Also, some of those guys have NBA experience (ex: Vander Blue) so I don't think they belong in the same category as Hunter
I'm bitter.

Well, that's pretty sobering but not all that surprising. Glad to see my boy James Michael McAdoo up there, though... master of the half-court pass pick-off.

I enjoyed watching the rooks this year, but like a vast majority of the young guys that enter the league, I doubt any of the 3 are NBA-ready physically. That's gotta come before anything else. Can probably still lump Young into that camp, as well.

Haha. Sorry, Lar, but this would be funny no matter who was on the opposite end.

Lot of people still seem overly excited about RJ Hunter.

I don't mean to be insulting but are you aware of how odd this is?  Not being negative or pessimistic.  That's common.  Knicks fans have practically made an art form of mocking their own team, but that's because they've sucked for a long time.

You, on the other hand, are a fan of a team that has made the playoffs, I believe, 7 out of the last 8 years, with two trips to the Finals and a championship.  And yet, you just spent a considerable amount of time assembling stats because you feel some people are getting a little to optimistic about a late first round pick who, to the best of my knowledge, no one has argued is going to be more than a fringe rotation player for Boston next season.  Or have their been a multitude of threads about RJ Hunter being an immediate starter and rookie of the year candidate and I've just missed them all?

Does that seem normal to you?

It took me a minute and a half to "assemble" those stats.

I saw someone suggest Hunter was NBA ready based on his performance in summer league.  Another suggested he should start this year. Statistically he wasn't even in the top 100 if you include other drafted rookies. I suspect he will spend most of his time in d league this year.  I was just curious how many undrafted nobodies put up "NBA-ready" summer league stats worthy of praise.  Looks like there were plenty.  It's interesting considering most of those guys listed will never play a minute of NBA basketball.

Where did those comments appear and why didn't you post this little project of yours in those threads?  Or again, do you think it's normal to start a completely new thread like this because a whopping two people are overly optimistic about RJ Hunter?

And could you explain to me the standard by which it is wrong, wrong, wrong to be overly excited about RJ Hunter but perfectly okay to be more excited about the potential of Anthony Bennett, Nik Stauskus and Bismack Biyombo than about anyone on the Celtics?

You must have forgotten that this movie is about the Celtics, so our guy is definitely going to turn into something special while those other guys you mentioned are just scrubs.

Lot of people still seem overly excited about RJ Hunter.  Just for reference, here's a list of undrafted scrubs who put up similar/better stats to RJ Hunter in summer league.  I excluded players who did enough in College to get drafted.

Yeah, me too.  I was positively giddy about RJ Hunter, the future superstar, until LarBrd's cold dose of reality brought me back down to earth.
