Sully may see some benefits related to the work he did this summer such as improved endurance and energy on the court, which would be great. Nevertheless, unless he drops a lot more weight, I'd expect his injury issues to persist.
Unless he tears it I think he may not play as much. Lee is here now, Amir is here now. Mickey is here now and Jonas fillled in admirably when Sully was hurt. I think if he comes in hot, and does well, then we will look at resigning him. If not the wise thing would be a trade or to let him walk.
Yes they were both very athletic but I would never call them ripped in comparison to other NBA players like say Vince Carter or Larry Johnson at a young age. That's all I was getting at.
Athletic guys at least have more room for error and you really can't say PP was ever out of shape.
Even so, he must take responsibility for that and dedicate himself to slim down. What seems to be missing here is a recognition on his part that being a professional athlete requires an elite level of discipline and determination that extends beyond what he does on the court, it has to permeate every part of his life. Committing to a very healthy diet and maintaining an intense exercise regimen is his job, and it's a job he has to do 24/7
Agree, it is a step he needs to take, then he might be able to fix it.
He's been cowed into taking on a fitness regimen by his family, reportedly despite his inclination to do nothing. Still, judging by the lack of radical results, he has not taken the kind of extreme measures that are probably necessary (e.g. completely changing his diet and lifestyle, such as the sugar-free diet Steve Nash undertook to keep playing till age 40).
This is the part that really gets me wondering. Does he really believe he is that good? I mean he did have the gall not to run up the floor and play D some possessions he missed and take some threes that were ill advised. I recall Stevens shaking his head and yanking him twice.
I think he deserves some credit for trying. But this is the NBA son, and every year players like MJ and Bird felt they needed to add stuff to their games and worked out in the summer. It makes you wonder why he does not.
But as I said above, we need to see what he does in a game and how he does in a game.
