Ty Lawson arrested for DUI

I wouldn't even want to buy low for this guy.  I think Smart is going to be better over all. Maybe not as an explosive offensive player, but does all the things that wins you games.

Reports that the Nuggets might cut their losses and waive him with 2 yrs/$25.6 mil left on his deal. Who knows what other off the court and locker room issues they've had to deal with privately if this is the last straw. Alcoholism is no joke, hope he gets some help.

If that's the case then I would expect a lengthy suspension with required rehab. I doubt anyone would bite on that contract and problem this year.

I agree. I think there is a chance he gets waived. A team can sell their fan and community on a guy making a mistake one time and learning from it. They can't sell them on a guy that gets 2 DUI's in a 6 month period and has 4 by age 27. It also seems hard to avoid speculating that he doesn't have a serious problem with drinking. People don't get caught for DUI's the only times they do it.

Edit: He also had 6k cash on him according to one of the reports. I don't maybe that is like having 60 bucks on you when you are a millionaire, but that seems odd.

well, I've had enough late nights understand the thought process.  I mean, who doesn't want to burn an L after a night out, right? 

So, then its where to burn.  You going to burn that on the sidewalk outside?  Nope.

You going back to someone's pad to burn?  Not in LA you aren't, nobody lives nearby.

maybe if the NBA made these kids attend college, they'd learn these kinds of life lessons sooner.

I don't know how reliable Mitch Lawrence is but it could maybe happen given that it isn't the first time that Lawson is arrested for DUI. Don't think he will have a hard time finding a new job though..

He has legal issues hanging over him. He could be facing some jail time. Repeated DUI's are not parking tickets. Will probably also have an NBA suspension. The Suns PJ tucker was suspended 3 games for a DUI recently. Given that Lawson is a repeat offender I would not be shocked by 7 or 8 games for this.

Stretching Lawson's contract might actually be an option for the Nuggets. A ~$5 mil hit over the next five years, and they can wash their hands of him.

Like paying someone the MLE for not playing for them.

I would only release him if the team doesn't like him. He might need treatment though, but I would not release him unless the team hates him or something. I mean he is a good player and might need like actual help. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they released him though, it seems like something a professional sports team would do.

It is really hard for us as outsiders to know what conversations they have had with him. I think after his first DUI, which occured like a night before a game, they probably had some serious talks with him about what he is doing and what he needs to do. Him being in the exact same situation seems like those talks did not take hold. I am sure if Lawson says I need help and will go to rehab until I am completely sober, it may actually be illegal for the Nuggets to cut him while he was dealing with a medical problem. That being said, it doesn't seem like he is happy there and they are moving in a different direction of a team. Unless he fights it, and they can't trade him anywhere, waiving him could work out best for everyone.

I do hope he gets help whatever happens. As I said earlier in the thread, you are not getting caught drunk driving the only times you do it. If you are getting caught multiple times, it is happening even more.

Whenever someone gets caught drunk driving I think it's great. It's unfortunate when someone gets arrested, especially if they have alcohol problems but it is very dangerous to drive drunk and a lot of people could have gotten hurt, including Lawson.

I hope Lawson gets the help that's needed to get his life on track.

I don't feel sorry for him though because anyone making over 13 million a year can certainly hire a driver if they know they are going out drinking. Some of these guys think they are "above the law" because they are celebrities. There is no excuse for this. I hope he gets maximum penalty from the NBA and the court system and then use your money to get help.
