I think we should be getting smart in evaluating teams that we look at more than the starting 5 of a team. Over an 82 game schedule, you can't rely on a starting 5 to make it through. So going at 8 or 9 deep with quality players is incredibly important.

Today or yesterday they signed Wayne Ellington and a guy named Willie Reed. They also lost Alan Anderson, who has been a servicable bench player for them.

Their bench includes

Thomas Robinson - I think a solid bench player
Steve Blake - 35 years old. Should be a 3rd string or retired
Rondae Hollis Jefferson - probably a fairly raw rookie
Shane Larkin - Phil Pressley 1.25?
Jerome Jordan - Career Backup second round stiff
Corey Jefferson - see above with perhaps tiny bit of upside

I mean guys that is god awful and on par with what the 76ers and Knicks were trotting out there bench wise.  Let's be realistic about it.

wow, those picks are gaining value by the day... hopefully the next shoe to drop is joe johnosn getting dumped as well.

IF cousins becomes available, suddenly we have a much nicer and more immediate platter of assets to offer in a trade.

And they lost teletovic, another valuable role player, due to financial reasons. With the Nets potentially releasing Williams and trying to trade JJ, I'm so glad the Nets have decided now to burn their roster to save money. Even if it makes sense, it helps the C's more than them.

People have the playoff in mind with the starting 5 playing almost 40min per game.
During the season, you need solid bench to be even at the 0.500 level.
The nets have one of the worse bench in nba right now. Maybe they will improve it before season start. Until then, this pick looks very good for us.

Initially I was lukewarm about the picks. However, if the nets lose JJ DW and Teletovic in one offseason we could really be looking at a 7th-8th overall pick here. Maybe worse.

Though, they will have cap space going forward which means his next years pick is gaining value and future picks losing it.

Umm why not top 3 if they lose all those guys. Do people also realize there are like no free agents left? Josh Smith and Jr Smith are out there, but beyond them even the second and third tier guys have signed.

You seem to be missing some players (Ellington, Karasev) and Shane Larkin is better than Pressey.  He actually didn't play that badly for the Knicks last year and actually started 22 games.  Blake is still effective even though he is old.  Thomas Robinson is incredibly talented and a nice solid addition.

Because they definitely don't have a bottom three roster. They're worse but not instead of an 7th-8th seed they go to the 11th-12th.

The Knicks, Lakers, and 76ers are the only ones I'm absolutely sure about. Who knows about the Nuggets, Hornets, or Trailblazers-- there's a huge range of outcomes there. Yeah, though, I definitely can't get to seven.

The Knicks, Lakers, and 76ers are the only ones I'm absolutely sure about. Who knows about the Nuggets, Hornets, or Trailblazers-- there's a huge range of outcomes there. Yeah, though, I definitely can't get to seven.

To be honest I think Affalo, Lopez and Carmelo is a clearly superior big 3 to Young, Lopez and Jack. I realized I using the phrase "big 3" in way it was not intended. As I mentioned earlier, I really believe 4-12 the Nets without those guys would be the worst in the league.

This is fantastic news for us. Dallas is now looks like a late lottery team (We'd get there pick) And the Nets are now that much worse. (We get their pick)
