Wasn't interested in Hibbert, so it's all good.

All the Pacers got for Hibbert was a second rounder, and this from a desperate team to do something.

As a said previously, the price to take on his contract around the league was probably the Pacers giving up something for someone to take the contract off their hands, so that they got a 2nd rounder out of it, it's a win for them if you can believe it (with the assumption that they didn't want him around anymore and gone soon period).

Isn't he on a one year deal? Yeah it's a high number but so is David Lee. It's a good move by LA Lakers they traded very little for him so there's no risk.

Lot to consider on this. Looks like incredible value. The Warriors needed a rim protecting center to get to the Finald even if they didn't need him much there so I think an overreaction there would be a bit much. $15M is a lot, but again, citing the Warriors, they just traded their highest paid player to us for the last guy on our bench.

Head scratcher. Just have to hope things work out. I would have been pretty excited had we acquired him for a second rounder, though...
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Seems like a win-win. Hibbert seems to have little value in the "new NBA" where positional versatility and floor spacing are critical...but none of that will matter on the Lakers, where the philosophy remains "watch Kobe jack it up from everywhere  with two guys draped on him."

Plus don't mess with that stat, three shooting nonsense.  We shoot midrange shots like champions do.

Yup. No one loves that pull-up J from 2 feet inside the line like Kobe Bean Bryant.

Surprisingly, Pacer fans not rioting about only getting a 2nd rounder and $15.5 million in cap room. Maybe because Hibbert sucks. Especially if you watched him play last year. Maybe because Pacers didn't have to give up an asset to get someone to take a player with a big contract who happens to suck off their hands. Perfect fit for Lakers and their fans though because they suck. Anyway, Pacer fan reactions:

It's obvious, given the low objective cost, the Celts could have had him if they wanted.  Simply means they didn't want him.  I do understand that CBS is great at extracting/improving value of 'distressed assets'. Hibbert therefore is a prime example of that we are building a culture and certain players/attitudes are not welcome.  Not all reclamation projects are the same.  Can't have players 'peeing in the Celtics chili'.

It's not too hard to connect Hibbert/Stephenson to the Pacers' culture imploding.  This is a red flag.  Even further, Danny and CBS probably got some information from Evan Turner that influenced them.

Sometimes 'buying low' is not a good idea, and there's plenty good reason for the discount to be left alone.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I would've rather had Hibbert for Wallace instead of Lee.
Would have happily taken Hibbert for a 2nd round pick too.

If this is a season that we are trying to make the 2nd round of the playoffs then Hibbert would've been a great buy low candidate that provides elite rim protection.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

In other news: Dwight Howard is celebrating his ass off because another Center is going to go up in flames in LA Lakers gear worse than he did.

Yup! Lakers fans are going to look back fondly on Dwight after the Hibbert era is over.
