I love what RJ Hunter is showing in SL, but he needs to be more efficient from the field and from behind the arc. 3 of 11 and 5 of 15 just aren't going to cut it.

A lot of desperation shots at the end of the shot clock due to a lack of an advanced and truly organized offense. The inefficiency probably won't translate to more organized NBA/D-League teams.

Spot on!!

..... every game he plays, naysayers have to scratch one more off this list of things Mr. Hunter CAN'T do.......STUD in the making !!

P.S.  Rozier, Hunter, Mickey.....yeah Danny is clueless........

They've been doing that since he was in HS. It's funny. Kid's had to deal with everything from outright racism because of being bi-racial to being pigeon-holed as "just a shooter" lol. He's got the stroke of Kyle Korver with the off ball movement of Rip Hamilton and the court smarts of Bobby Hurley I'm telling you when this young man grows into his body and the athleticism catches up with his basketball brainhe will be an all-star. You'll see.

Rip Hamilton......nice!!! As far as the skinny body and "awkward" athleticism goes, ask Reggie Miller how much weight he had to gain to have a long and successful NBA career....

That is true. Rookies also aren't always the most efficient as well. The problem is that in most cases you would be right about the fact that he would benefit by playing the official squad, but in reality we don't have a true point guard on the roster. Our best playmaker is Thomas and our next best playmaker is Evan Turner. I mean hopefully he will improve with more open shots.

Also is anyone sick of CJ Fair?!?!

This dude jacks up a shot every time he touches the ball!! Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.n it disgusts me.

I think everyone is sick of Fair, he gets a lot of flak in the game threads.

Still think he'll shoot the lights out in the D-League.

Maybe he'll get 10 minutes here and there at the NBA level, too.  Especially if Danny dumps Evan Turner.

I didn't originally post in this thread but thought I would say a few things:

First, let's assume PJIII gets cut. That makes things easy and is the most likely outcome come time to trimming down the roster.

Second, let's assume health, at least to begin with.

That leaves 15 rostered players but only 12 players that can be active on any given night. This means that the players towards the end of the bench will see very little practice time and no playing time once the season gets going.

Now if those players are rookies or second year players they can be sent to the D League to work on their game and stay in game shape. So the best thing is most likely to send three players to the D League

But who?

Well, with the logjam in the frontcourt Mickey is a given. Unless there are trades or injuries  to rid the team of at least 2 frontcourt players, Mickey is destined for the D League all year. Some diehard Mickey fans on this site have to accept that fact.

That leaves two positions to be able to send to the D League out of three players: Hunter, Rozier and Young. Personally I think Young is destined for another D League run but I admit I could be wrong. If I am wrong then all three of our rookies are going to the NBDL and Young will ride the bench with Boston waiting for blowouts so he can play. And let's face it, pretty much out of the three players, Young, Rozier, and Hunter, whichever player makes the team and doesn't get sent down, they will be riding pine awaiting garbage time minutes.

So if Young goes down to Maine again, it comes down to who the staff and front office will benefit the most from being around the vets and learning from them and the little practice and game time he will get, Rozier or Hunter.

After three pre-season games and the Summer League, I can't decide which player it could be. I don't see how anyone else can be 100% sure either as most of the evaluation process of these players is probably happening in practice.

Personally, I think the team needs a third PG on this team more than a third SG. I am sure others will argue the team is better off with Hunter being the backup SG because of his skill at shooting the three. I don't see that. If he makes the team he is on the depth chart behind Bradley, Smart when he plays with IT, and Turner when Stevens wants to go big and Have Jerebko at SF and Turner at SG with Smart at PG.

Thing is, I think Rozier is one of those players too.

I agree that Rozier and Hunter will fight for spot 12 on the active roster.

Ultimately I think both will be good. Rozier needs to improve the handle and improve his shot. His combination of confidence, quickness, length, and heart is pretty great already. Hunter on the other hand needs to bulk up, and improve shot consistency.

The question becomes who can make the bigger impact here and who would gain more from Maine. I think RJ's shooting and bbiq and passing etc make him a plug and play type option. If you need minutes from him you wont have to worry about him making mistakes.

Rozier I think gains more from constant PT. As such I think Maine makes sense for him as he can work on his handle more.

Im excited about both and expect both to be in the rotation after the deadline where we hopefully move some of the depth.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rozier and Hunter take turns being the last guy on the active roster getting spot minutes, with the other spending time in the D-League.

Nick- I think you nailed this, but I'd like to pick up the ball and run a little further. Why assume health when we have injury statistics? In any given season, the average team loses about 60 man-games to injury-- so your 15-man roster is really 15.75 men. I agree with you that Rozier, as a 3rd-ish point guard, will be the most useful. You could also tab him for a spot on the team ahead of Hunter based on draft pedigree alone. There's a ghost-slot in play, though, and the odds say that one of the others is also going to spend more time in Boston than Maine.

Would that player be Hunter (maybe)? Would it matter who the injury is (probably not)?

Shooting wise?  Splash brother worthy.  His shot is that on, and similar mechanics.

If we had NOT drafted him---Golden State would definitely have grabbed him...I think this guy is going to be Great.

I've Been on board since day 1......ha-!
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

Though Hunter's range is phenomenal and his stroke sweet,  I still need to see Hunter actually hitting at a good rate from three to declare him rotation eligible. He was only a 30% 3PT shooter from shorter range his last year in college at a small program and is only shooting at about the same rate in 3 preseason games. He is making great basketball decisions and playing better defense than I thought he would but if he is billed as a three point shooter he has to hit the shot at a percentage that isn't in the Jared Sullinger range.
