He'll be spending lots of time with James Young in Maine. #trashbrostreunited

I would bet he gets more NBA playing time than Young.

I expect him to be as good as Clay Thompson.  Seriously.

I was just comparing their measurements on draftexpress and was surprised how well RJ compares to Klay.

Height w/out shoes:  RJ 6'4.5", Klay 6'5.75"
Height with shoes:  RJ 6'6", Klay 6'7.25"
Weight: RJ 185, Klay 206
Wingspan: RJ 6'10.5, Klay 6'9"
Standing reach:  RJ 8'8", Klay 8'7.5"
No step vert: RJ 27.5", Klay 26.5"
Max vert:  RJ 33.5", Klay 31.5"
Max ver reach: RJ 11'5.5", Klay 11'3"
Agility: RJ 10.97, Klay 10.99
Sprint: RJ 3.26, Klay 3.24

While Klay is an inch taller, RJ makes up for that with longer arms.

Klay does have 20 pounds on RJ, but just a year before the combine after his sophomore season, Klay only weighed 190.  He put on 15 pounds during his junior year of college just a year younger than RJ is now.  In the NBA training program, there is no reason Hunter couldn't put on 15 pounds over the next year.

Their athleticism is very comparable.

Their college stats are very similar across the board.  RJ's 3 point shooting was down his junior year, but I think it's understood that is not an accurate reflection of his shooting ability.

At first I scoffed at the Klay Thompson comparison, but it could be fairly accurate.

RJ was raised by a coach, has a high basketball IQ, and supposedly has an excellent work ethic.  It would be outstanding if he reaches Thompson's level and it might not be too far fetched.

It's worth noting that not a heck of a lot was expected out of Klay Thompson. Part of the reason for that is that the physical profile above is not at all impressive. It's misleading to frame traits as strengths just because they are shared with a good player. Isaiah Thomas is a good player, but I'd be feeding you a line if I picked out any short-stack in college that can shoot and told you it wasn't far fetched that they could be like him.

I think that is the goal.  I would be quite pleased if he could develop into that good a player.

If his solid defense can continue he will play for us I think unless we trade for some wing or shooter.  He is probably our best shooter I would bet so that will earn him time.  He has some of the footwork of a veteran NBA shooter already.

He seems to be intelligent on the defensive end and works hard there too, which I love to see.  If he was or is a poor defender that is what will keep him off the floor, but I think he will be pretty solid in that area and earn himself some minutes this year.  Not saying a lot, just some.  I think he has good long term potential.

Sure, but it's also not as much of a stretch to believe a 6'6" guy that can shoot can become a good player versus a guy who is 5'9".

I'm still not sure, but his stroke is quite beautiful and I've done a 180 on my perception of his personality and such.

I'd say this, if he transforms his body the way Gordon Hayward transformed his, then he'll be a very dangerous player. But until then, it'll have to be a wait and see.

after not getting picked higher told his dad" i'm going to make all rookie first team"-
his dedication and drive put him ahead of young, being the go to guy at his school and his ability to find space or make it,
along with dribbling skills and a sense of urgency in his style of defense will win over fans -but to play d in pros got to bulk up so he can fight over screens and rebound

His reported dedication and drive are certainly encouraging.  I don't expect much from him over the next season as like you say, he is going to have to bulk up.

For everyone who keeps saying his shooting stroke is great--- isn't it a problem how low he shoots it though? I mean, isn't it actually an enormous problem??

There are other guys in the league with a release point similar to his such as Kevin Martin.  Plus, he has a very quick release.

It might even actually help him draw fouls as we saw yesterday

I like his shot mechanics and quick release.  He has more work to do to get "NBA Ready", but it looks like we finally have a SG that can shoot the ball.  I look foward to watching this guy develop.
