This is insane.

I can't imagine this will go over smoothly.  Is there a precedent for this?

I joked about Biyombo getting more money, but seriously there were deals in place contingent on Jordan's decision.  If he's not going to the Mavs, doesn't this throw a major wrench in stuff like Hibbert to the Lakers?

It absolutely does.

If deals struck during the moratorium are not honored, it could cause a lot of dominoes to fall differently than previously expected, screwing over a bunch of different teams.

Heck, what if Amir Johnson ends up signing with the Mavs?  Celts could be left in the lurch.  Or perhaps Koufos will screw the Kings and sign in Dallas.

We can only hope that we get that lucky!
Before the agreement with Rondo, I heard the Kings were strongly considering backing out of their HORRIBLE trade with Philly where they gave up Nik Stauskas, a 1st and two pick swaps.   But the commentary on that was that it would be such an unprecedented bush-league move that they'd be blackballed for doing such a thing.

Quote

DeAndre Jordan has indicated to the Los Angeles Clippers that he will back out of his deal with the Dallas Mavericks to remain with the team.

Jordan reached out to Doc Rivers on Monday expressing regret on his decision and several members of the Clippers met with him in Houston on Wednesday.

The Mavericks fear Mark Cuban will not be able to get a meeting with Jordan. Tim MacMahon of ESPN reports Jordan won't even take a phone call from Cuban or Chandler Parsons.

The Clippers will stay with Jordan at his house until he signs his new contract.

Is this setting up some kind of Mark Cuban lawsuit?  Lol.  This is one of the craziest NBA stories I've ever heard.  LIke they show up to have an intervention for their drug addict brother or something.  "We aren't leaving your side until you agree to check into rehab"... Wild

As Woj tweeted, this was all overblown (but I'm glad for comedies sake).

As soon as DeAndre was wavering he was back to the Clippers and they just played cards at the meeting.  While the world burned.

The Celts should look into trading for Parsons.

The Mavs are going to be bad for a while.  At this point it's obvious they're not going to convince any major free agents to sign with them just to play next to Dirk for the last year or two of his career.  Their position is similar to the Lakers in that respect.

By the time the Mavs are decent again, Parsons will have left in free agency, plus he'll be 30 years old.

The only hope for the Mavs now is to be so very bad that they are assured of keeping their pick next year.

When even the Kings front office considers something too bush-league, then you know it's bad!

They can't be that bad, the eastern conference still exists.

Why do they even have a moratorium period?  Seems like it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.  People do sometimes change their minds.

I'm guessing it'll end up top 5.  Mavs will go for a bottom shelf record.

Even if the Mavs wanted to be decent, there aren't any quality free agents left for them to build a team out of.  They're screwed.  They should back out of their deal with Wes Matthews.  Might be doing him a favor, really.

Sure.   We need a SF... I'd be on board with Parsons.

Hey, Dallas needs an overpaid big man and we specialize in those. David Lee to Dallas for waiver of the 1-7 protection on the draft picks.  ;D

Yeah, but they're in the West, which means it's easier to lose a lot of games against your most common opponents.

I mean, even if they try to be good, their starting lineup is probably gonna feature 33 year old Devin Harris, injured Wes Matthews, Chandler Parsons, ancient Dirk, and Kevin Seraphin!

And forget about their bench.  What bench?

At the very least they'll be worse than the Knicks.

Would Nowitzki contemplate waiving his no trade clause for a chance to finish his career on a contender? Is Carlisle definitely gone if one or both of these things happen?

If you're going to tank, then you hire a tanking coach.  Based on his temperament, that's not Carlisle.

How about AB and Sully for Parsons

PG: Smart        / IT               / Rozier
SG: Crowder    / Turner         / Hunter
SF: Parsons     / Jerebko        / Young
PF: Lee            / KO               / Mickey
 C: Amir           / Zeller

That team has 50 win potential in the east

So, good luck to Doc Rivers ever completing a trade with another team again, right?  I mean, he's got to get blackballed by other GMs for doing this.
