GMs don't ignore role guys until they court more expensive players -- at least not good ones. They schedule all of it at once, sell the **** out of everyone they want, then buy time where necessary to organize the dominos in the right order.

That's like saying you shouldn't think about who to draft in the second round until you know who your first round pick(s) will be.

I don't think that the draft pick comparison is accurate.  The point is that they may not want to sign role players now if it may take away money that they need to make offers to potential starters.

Yeah, but interviewing players and starting negotiations is not remotely the same thing as signing them.  Players aren't idiots -- they know when they're Plan B or C, and can be okay with it if the fit seems right to them.

Hopefully Aminu is plan C rather than plan A.  He's an NBA journeyman swing forward who has been in the NBA 5 seasons and never averaged more than 8 PPG.

Not that good at shooting, can't stretch the floor, terrible at shooting 3's.  A career backup player at the SF/PF position.

Don't all those flaws intertwine into one serious flaw that Aminu can't shoot at all?

I agree about him plus if the Celtics really wanted a wing they would have drafted Dekker. He would have been cheaper and has higher upside than Aminu.

We already have a back-up wing who brings more to the table because he can shoot. Jae Crowder. As long as its at the right price, I'd rather have him back than get Aminu.

Aminu would be a solid rotation player...

But we're stocked up with plenty of them.

He is a great rebounder for his position. I am glad to see he has interest in the celtics that is always good.

At this point I'm excited for any free-agent that makes the trip to Boston.

I really like Aminu's potential fit on this team as a PF. The fact that he has PF height and length and high end SF mobility could be a game changer for this team. Crowder played the 4 using his strength to excel in the role but there is no hiding the fact that at under 6'5 (without shoes) he is undersized for the role. Aminu is 6'7.25" with out shoes, .5" less then Sully and 1" taller then Bass. Add to that his 7'3" wingspan and thats a huge difference.


I'm not sure if the CBA allows it but I wonder if Dallas would do a Crowder for Aminu S&T I belive thats what DA did to trade Big Baby for Bass.

I suspect that Aminu is being courted in the event that some other team makes Jae Crowder an offer Ainge does not want to match.

I dont see the 3 as a spot we need to upgrade. The guy we forget about on here a lot is Turner. If we want to continue to start Smart we really need more ball handling as AB can not run the O. We also have Crowder, who I think is the long term solution. The 4 and the 5 are bigger priorities and if we make a trade the 1 and 2 spots could be as well.

averaged 11 points 7 boards a game in the playoffs. shot an absurd 64% from deep so those numbers are skewed. I think he could occupy the Jae Crowder role to an extent. Could he be an homeless mans Kawhi or Draymond Green?

Aminu's biggest advantage over Crowder is his size. 

Crowder fights hard, but it's difficult to make a huge impact defensively at the swing position when you're 6'6'' and don't possess fantastic length or athleticism.  Iggy's about the same size as Crowder, of course, and he just did it on the biggest stage, but he's a lot more talented.

Crowder's floor is higher than Aminu's, though.  Aminu only has great value if he can hit those corner threes consistently.
