This would be a very underwhelming signing - especially if it is for more than one year. We need to maintain cap flexibility not sign players without any star potential whatsoever.

I agree. We have enough role players, and players at Aminu's position as is. Why would we be interested in signing him? I hope it's because we have a trade or two worked out to move out other PFs on the roster, but I doubt it.

Have to give Blakely some credit since he had this back in April.

BOSTON -- When Al-Farouq Aminu signed a two-year, $2.08 million deal with Dallas last summer, the goal was to help the Mavericks win, get some playing time and re-establish his value as an NBA player.

He couldn’t help the Mavericks get past the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs, but his play in the postseason did wonders for his own stock which has him on radar of a number of teams – including the Celtics.

Aminu is a wiry, 6-foot-9 small forward with above-average athleticism, who, more than anything else, hasn’t found that right fit yet.

In the playoffs this season, Aminu seemed to have found that balance.

In Dallas’ five-game series, he averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 63.6 percent on 3s. And he did this playing 30 minutes a game – something that won’t happen next season when Chandler Parsons (knee) returns to the lineup.

While Aminu doesn’t necessarily move to the front of the Celtics’ offseason wish list, there’s no question he is a player that in part based on his postseason play, has to be given some consideration.

I'm surprised the Lakers are not interested.

But they will be soon!

Averaged 6.4ppg and 5.3rpg throughout his career for a forward....eh if he comes cheap then sure.

He has a 7'3-1/4" wingspan and a 9' 1/2" reach. .Could be a good defender on 3/4 pos players

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Solid player.

Im not sure if we should use our cap room for another role player, but I'd be happy to have him for cheap. Good, active kid who had a good Playoff run.

Asing as it's cheap, why not? We needed depth at the SF spot anyway.

Do we, though? Turner, Crowder, Young, Wallace all are SFs. I guess I understand it if we lose Crowder, but not until the end of FA.

Well, to defend myself. I counted Turner at SG and Young could not be ready just yet.

Sorry, you are basically right. I am just a little frustrated (notice my inclusion of Wallace in the depth chart). I just hope if we sign a small forward, it is more of the Butler/Leonard/Harris variety.

I don't understand why people are getting angry over this? I'm sure the star free agents will meet with Boston.

Aminu would be a solid rotation player...

But we're stocked up with plenty of them.

I think we should figure out the max deal players first before even thinking about role players.

I agree. Aminu does absolutely nothing for me and doesn't move the needle for the Celts in any way.

Blakely is a hack who deserves no credit and should be fired immediately. He had the balls to basically mock all Celtics fans by saying there was a 35-40 percent chance the Celts would land Aldridge and Matthews when there was 0 chance all along.

The guy is a total and utter idiot.
