Here's the perspective of 76er fans on this trade:  http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1394267#start_here

Spoiler:  It's two straight pages of hysterical laughter.

They have countered with: Tony Wroten, #35 and #37 for Smart, #16, #28.

Is this you?

This is not that surprising. As a longtime Sixers fan in Celtic territory, this is the type of thing Red Auerbach used to do to try and build up the value of his players, and make himself seem like a genius. Every pre-draft and near the trade deadline, there would be rumors of ridiculous one-sided deals. The Jazz were always offering Darrell Griffith and a first for Greg Kite (stiff personified), for example. Ainge has always tried to be Auerbach II. Fans in the '80s remember the late night fire alarms at the visiting team's hotel, the no air conditioning game against the Lakers, the usual "Kevin McHale is seriously injured and will not play" but plays anyway crap. Ainge has worked the same way, remember the severe but fast-healing Paul Pierce injuries? Boston fans and sportscasters love this. Ainge is trying to get the local kid and showing how valuable Smart is. Not going to happen, but it gives the fans/trained seals something to clap their flippers about.

No it's not me... plenty of members here can verify that I'm a longtime Celtic fan/recent 76ers apologist living in Sonics territory.

Besides, I already admitted that my name on the SixersBlog is JulErvg6 and I spend all my time there bashing Hinkie for drafting injured stiffs and praising Danny Ainge's ability to surround himself with highly lucrative role players and late 1sts.

Well obviously they declined.   you could offer Smart + #16 + #28 for Noel and they'd say no.

Don't know about that...

Noel is somewhat redundant in Philly (since they have Embiid) and Smart is somewhat redundant in Boston (since they have Thomas) - yet Philly has no PG an Boston has no center.

This player trade on it's own probably benefits both teams.

It's arguable. But I love Danny's thinking here, with third pick he takes Russel and we have are 1 and 5 of the future. IMO he should offer more, give Philly a or 3 more picks if it would get it done, go all in.

A league source has confirmed yesterday's report. Celtics offered Marcus Smart, No. 16 plus two other players for Nerlens Noel and No. 3.

Weren't you just discussing how much of a "high-risk" player Embiid is a few days ago? Not sure how you can come to the conclusion that Noel is now redundant while also simultaneously arguing that there's a huge risk in Embiid, who we've yet to see play a single minute.

my guess is one has to be Sullinger or Olynyk.  I would guess the other is Young.

Smart, Young, Sullinger, 16 for Noel, 3

That seems like the type of offer Ainge would make.  Not totally out of whack, but not surprised Philly didn't take it.

Definitely one of the PFs (KO & Sully).  2nd guy could be one of a handful of guys.

I am surprised Smart is being offered.  They must really love someone up there.

Sounds credible. LOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

Looks like just another rumor to to push someone's agenda.
:D

(will this ever get old? Probably not. I'm very petty.)

Yeah, this is still a bad trade for Philly, but maybe it's reasonable enough to draw a counteroffer from Hinkie-- which is basically the point of a first offer anyway, you never expect the other guy to just take it.

Wait I'm confused this was the original offer or a new offer?

Olynyk was the other player apparently.
