If we can dump Wallace's as* to a team like Philly that can absorb his contract with their cap space and then find another team where we can dump Evan Turner's as* (he would fit into one of Brooklyn's trade exceptions), we could have more than enough money to get Aldridge and Matthews.

I would even give up the 16th pick to get rid of Wallace to free up the cap space.

I'm honestly not all that interested in Aldridge for some reason... not going to complain if we get him, but for some reason he's not exciting me.

Rather go with Monroe if the chance is there.

LMA is either going to Texas or Portland. Boston is a non starter. He is also far too old for this team. Save the money for when the kids become good and tank for a few more seasons. Try to swing both picks to steal Embiid since Philly might be inclined to deal him.

I agree LMA is to old for this team but that doesn't mean have to tank I prefer to just find younger talent that's why I'd prefer Love. But why would we want Greg Oden err I mean Embiid? ???

Since when turning 30 is too old?  LOL

LOL, apparently some people here think that if you're older than 25 years old, you're washed up and can't play anymore. Apparently, this should be the required picture perfect image, age-wise, of a Celtics player.

LMA is only too "old" if you really think we're going to build a championship core around Evan Turner and Sully. Most of the guys on the team currently will not be on the next Celtics contender. Much like 2007-2008 Danny is building up to cash in. All these Nets picks and decent youngsters outside maybe Smart are headed out the door for real talent. My guess is we'll move up to draft WCS, then go all-in with FA. I hope so because I can't watch this current team for another 80+ games..

Well, yeah, you'd have to be willing to give up that pick, since Philly isn't taking Wallace's contract without compensation and they've shown to put a premium on their cap space in the offseason (see: the Jeremy Lin trade they rejected last summer because the Rockets didn't meet their asking price).

This seems like it'd be a pretty clear case of tampering. Publicly filming a recruiting video for another team's free agent before July 1st?

Well since it's an Internet rumor, I think the league would put this a few rungs below the "Anonymous sources" type reports about a team interested in a certain player that are on just about every sports site this time of year. Since the league doesn't seem to care about those things, doubt anything would come of this.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

Yea, I mean, you can film whatever the heck you want as lon as you don't contact the player or release a public statement before July 1st

So this was posted on Real GM earlier today by 'Flightsisters' who is a poster on RealGM (who is not just a random troll). Says he was was at Reggie Wong park (the courts) playing with some buddies and the Celtics were doing some marketing filming with some kids dressed up in uniforms.
At first they thought it was just normal community relations/sales stuff- which you'll see them sometimes doing in town.
But at the end they put an Aldridge jersey on the tallest kid and made him play 1v1 while filming.
So yeah, the Celtics seem to have been making a video of LaMarcus Aldridge being represented in a Celtics Jersey with his name and #12.
This is pretty normal when recruiting but it's cool nonetheless. Danny is going all in!

I was playing ball at the Reggie Wong court in Boston today and the court next to me was taken up by a young group of boys playing basketball. It wasn't real basketball as everything was determined by the camera crew filming it. There was two professional cameras filming 10 boys routinely doing the same clip with all the boys wearing celtics fear of sorts. The filmers/staff all had celtics stuff on as well. At first I thought this was a boston is A brotherhood like commercial.

However at the end they made two players go one one, with the tallest kid there (age 14) wearing a celtics lamarcus Aldridge jersey. Number and all. I wonder if Danny and the crew are making a video in preparation for a pitch to LMA. They only let the Aldridge kid play offense. It seems the celtics priority, despite his age is LMA first and foremost.
Take it for what I saw. Thoughts?

Hope it's good.

why would you film that in Chinatown? that park is literally crap

Love has agreed by all accounts to head to LA and its a smart move. His uncle is a beach boy, he went to college there, his girl is from there etc...it's been a few years in the making but it's more or less done. Embiid is a better gamble than Banks 2.0. Can't teach size.

Boy, apparently CB883 is Woj by disguise, because this guy is SO well-connected that he already knows for fact where each free agent is going to go!  ::)

Aldridge is the best free agent on the market.

Acquire him and the Celts take a HUGE step in the right direction.

The idea is to go forward, not be stuck in the same position they're in now.

Who said anything about being stuck in the same position?

nah.  Didn't teams put up huge banners trying to recruit lebron?  I've heard of teams producing videos.   It's fine... We are a couple weeks away from free agency.  They need to have recruiting assets on day 1.

Btw, it doesn't matter If the rumor is true or not. We 100% will go after Lamarcus this summer, obviously.   We will make offers to gasol, Lamarcus, love, etc.  Any unrestricted big man will clearly get an offer from us. Otherwise, this franchise is entirely incompetent.   Still, it doesn't mean any of those guys are coming here.

I am just saying Aldridge moves the needle for the Celts in a big way.

Monroe is a good player and I would love to have him, but I don't think he would make the impact LMA would.

In other words, we need that difference maker that KG was and I think LMA is that type of guy, otherwise we are just kind of spinning our tires.

Play wise, I think the impact will be fairly comparable. I like Monroe because he's a better passer, plays on the block more (something we lack), and I think he's more willing and ready to play Center for us. And cheaper.

I also think that Monroe's usage with us would increase from what he did in Detroit.

As an attraction, Aldridge brings a higher cache, so might help recruit other players more so than Monroe. But over the long-run, and we're currently in it for the long-run, I think Monroe will be the better choice for us. If we can replicate a quick super team, then I might start leaning towards Aldridge instead. But I'm not counting on that, it's a risky proposition for me to try and go that route.

But I'm not sweating over this. If we get Aldridge, I'll be ecstatic, I'm just not currently feeling all that interested in him for some reason for the reasons already mentioned in my other posts. I have some serious doubts about future performance.

I think Monroe is above average while LMA is clearly a special player. Any guy averaging 23-10 in the WC is a beast plain and simple. Monroe vs LMA is a silly question in my mind. Yes Monroe may be a slightly better passer but we need someone who can score and get boards more than we need a passing big. 15-9 bigs are a dime a dozen a 20-10 guy can take us to the next level. Get LMA and the next contender is within our grasp.
Plus LMA is a plus defender as a big. so a superstar level offensive player and above-average defenseive player and you want Greg Monroe?

Plus LMA with attract other FAs. No brainer..

I just refuse to look at this team with Green colored glasses. They have geographic location going against them and that's a major deal breaker for every top FA out there. I'm telling you Love will either stay in Cleveland or the more likely scenario head to LA. Worst kept secret in the NBA. Who would choose Boston over LA when you're in your 20's? Weather and nightlife are great when you're rich.LMA is going to Texas and will be a bust half way through. Far too old to be an impact guy by the time the Celtics contend again. I guess since there is a floor and you have to spend then getting Monroe on a really short term deal wouldn't be bad. If you sign him hopefully he pans out for half a season so he can be flipped for a high pick in 2016. But I think he's ticketed for the bright lights of NYC. The only way for Boston to build this thing is to do what Philly is doing and get lucky. By NBA standards Boston is no different than Minnesota or Cleveland before LeBron last year. Some okay pieces, young and in less than desirable locations for endorsements and nightlife.

One of the things the Cavaliers did to keep James from leaving the first time was this:

Quote
http://New coach Byron Scott, general manager Chris Grant, assistant general manager Lance Blanks and owner Dan Gilbert were the principals in the meeting. In addition to presentations from Scott and Grant about their plans, sources said the Cavs also planned to show James a cartoon featuring him and his friends as characters.

It was made in a Family Guy style, which is one of James' favorite shows, and featured some inside jokes related to the team. Those who know James personally know that he loves cartoons, inside jokes and cheap laughs. The central part of the Cavs' pitch is that they know him the best.
