Honestly, if Kevin Love stays with Cleveland for another year, he's an idiot.  He's never going to be anything other than a glorified role player and#3 option for that team.

Switching to a team that will feature him and use him properly, even if only for a season or two before the cap jumps, would be far, far better for his career.
Im not so sure. Right now he is in a position where he can be a part of something special. He opts in to the deal and gives it another year to see if this potentially awesome situation works itself out. If it doesnt move on and sign a new max next year, where Im sure he will get one even with a bad second year.

Now if he leaves, there are certainly some positives, but I dont think its a great look for him. First he hated Minnesota and bailed on them, then he did the same to Cleveland. It puts him in a position where he absolutely has to be a stud in his next deal, or else he looks like a complete jackass.
I think after his shoulder injury Love may be just thinking that he should take the max money right now
a factor I had not considered.

If he is looking for money then there is zero chances he leaves the Cavs. They can give more $ per year and a 5 yr deal. Other teams can give him 4 yrs and less $ per yr compared to Cavs

Didn't see to effect Bosh's next contract at all.  And Bosh is a lot older than Love.  I mean Bosh had Houston and Miami clamoring hard for him and offering him max.  And for all the talk of Love's numbers dropping and what not, he had about the same level drop as Bosh did from Toronto to Miami.

The only way Love doesn't get a max contract whenever he is in the market for one is if he gets seriously injured.  One more season of similar play and he still gets max.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Just say the Cavs do beat the Warriors in the finals, No need to tinker with that starting lineup , KLove potential 6th Man of the year next season. ;D

Just keep saying the right things, Kevin :) ;)

Polish up that image, next to LeBron.

Once he leaves, he will have a nice Christmas bow on him, ready to suit up in Green. Once he leaves we'll truly see how good he is/can be, without the shadow of LeBron or Kyrie hiding it.

Can anyone get a specific quote where Marc Gasol and LMA say they are staying with their teams this yr? Not all. Because those guys are weighing their options.

Players never definitively say they are staying if they wont. Its always dodging the question with things like 'Am not thinking about that now' or ' I am focused on the playoffs now'

Klove has been saying all season he is staying at Cavs. He could have easily just said 'Hey am not thinking about FA now. All I want to do is get healthy'!! AT worst he is going to opt in and look for the money next yr. Like I said he wants to win and he is currently in the best situation to do that. After losing his whole career he is not about to throw away a possible 3-4yr dynasty

He will give the Cavs 1 more yr to see if he can be integrated better into the team and see where he is at. Now their core is pretty much set, I am sure Blatt will have all the sets with better use for Love by training camp. All this recycled media speculation is just the same old drama for clicks.

I think it is time that Lebron entered the Magic phase of his career and looked to score a little less and ramp up those assists, maybe drop his numbers down to the 20 per game level , what better way to integrate KLove into the lineup , help Love put up some bigger numbers in the process.

And this is exactly what will happen. It couldnt happen last season because the roster at the start of training camp was way too flawed. They made move mid-season to cover their holes but you can't build an offensive system mid-season due to extremely limited practices. It takes a whole training camp to do that! Not to talk of them having a rookie HC

Lebron took 18FGA this RS because it was a new team but last RS at the Heat he took 16FGA. He has no issue giving up shots if it betters the team. Klove with his so called limited role avg 16 and 10rpg this season. With more touches he can easily get to 20 and 10 while Lebron numbers are around 23 and 9apg and 6rpg. Kyrie can easily be at 22 and 5. All with high FG%! Meanwhile the defensive holes on the the team have been covered and all the role players (Jr, Shump, TT, Mosgov, Delly, Varejoa) know their roles. Again it takes more than 1 season to build chemistry. But hey dont tell the media that though

Every single comment Love has made on the subject says he's coming back to Cleveland.  It doesn't mean a lot, obviously, but neither do the speculative reports of Brian "Lebron is never coming back to Cleveland, and if he does, Kyrie is definitely gone" Windhorst.

Love will be in Cleveland imo. I can't see him leaving at all.

I would expect Love to bet on himself and opt in for the last year.

The  rewards are great.  Another year with a title contender.  A chance to finish the season going into the contract healthy.  A chance to play better next season.

A chance for the bigger max.

This is where I'm at.

He can make himself much, much more appealing going back to Cleveland, playing really well and healthy, and then enter FA in the giant cap spike.

I've always expected Love to opt in this summer and look to cash in in the summer of 2016.  Maybe it is with the Cavs, maybe not, but either way I've always thought he would be back for next season.

I thought so initially, but being 3rd wheel and overshadowed by Tristan Thompsons play also, I can see him bolting.

I'm not real conversant with the CBA, except for the basics, but can/would a team offer a player a max contract giving the player the option to opt out after each year?

If so, that would have to be pretty attractive to Love and show more than "good faith" but leave some exposure for us (although maybe not as much as it seems).

No. Under the new CBA, options can only be on the last year of a contract. That's why LeBron signed the two-year deal with next year as a player option.

The team may not feel the same if they can win without him.

Not the teams choice at this moment.

If Tristan Thompson  has a big impact vs gsw , i expect love not to be resigned.
