Kevin Love on next season: "I truly expect to be suiting up for Game 1." For the Cavs? Love: "Yes, sir."

I think that the word "expect" is controlling here.

It's not "shall", it's not "I will be".

You might as well insert "I think I might be" there. He can't say anything else timing wise.

He's gone.
The expect was suiting up for game 1, not playing for the Cavs.  There was no limiting language on that part and he certainly could have qualified that part of the statement.

The follow up question was "For the Cavs?" and Love responded with "yes"...
yeah, I understand, I'm saying he if he wasn't as sure he easily could have said I expect that, that is the plan, etc.  He was pretty darn firm though with a Yes Sir.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Can anyone get a specific quote where Marc Gasol and LMA say they are staying with their teams this yr? Not all. Because those guys are weighing their options.

Players never definitively say they are staying if they wont. Its always dodging the question with things like 'Am not thinking about that now' or ' I am focused on the playoffs now'

Klove has been saying all season he is staying at Cavs. He could have easily just said 'Hey am not thinking about FA now. All I want to do is get healthy'!! AT worst he is going to opt in and look for the money next yr. Like I said he wants to win and he is currently in the best situation to do that. After losing his whole career he is not about to throw away a possible 3-4yr dynasty

He will give the Cavs 1 more yr to see if he can be integrated better into the team and see where he is at. Now their core is pretty much set, I am sure Blatt will have all the sets with better use for Love by training camp. All this recycled media speculation is just the same old drama for clicks.

My bad. I had it flipped.

What else was he supposed to say
He still has to be in the same locker room as the queen and his peasants through the finals. I still think he is going to look around.
I would have hoped to hear "I'll have to look into my options this summer"

He can't say that until the finals are over.  Otherwise it distracts from his team trying to win a championship and he would get crushed by his teammates and the media.  Can you imagine the Cavs winning game one and Lebron getting asked about Love looking into his options this summer?

Lebron would probably say "Hey thats perfectly his decision, ask him about it! All am worried about is winning this series!"

They asked him the exact same question right after Klove went down after the Cs series and that was the answer he gave

Honestly, if Kevin Love stays with Cleveland for another year, he's an idiot.  He's never going to be anything other than a glorified role player and#3 option for that team.

Switching to a team that will feature him and use him properly, even if only for a season or two before the cap jumps, would be far, far better for his career.

But, he might be an important piece to a championship contender.  Where else can he go where he'll get that opportunity and a bigger role in the offense?

Pretty sure he has spent the first 6yrs of his career getting stats!!Very obvious winning multiple Titles would be much better for his career at this stage. But hey I am sure you are looking out for whats best for Klove and not whats best for the Cs ::) ::)

Im not so sure. Right now he is in a position where he can be a part of something special. He opts in to the deal and gives it another year to see if this potentially awesome situation works itself out. If it doesnt move on and sign a new max next year, where Im sure he will get one even with a bad second year.

Now if he leaves, there are certainly some positives, but I dont think its a great look for him. First he hated Minnesota and bailed on them, then he did the same to Cleveland. It puts him in a position where he absolutely has to be a stud in his next deal, or else he looks like a complete jackass.

I think after his shoulder injury Love may be just thinking that he should take the max money right now

Says who? The Cavs were deliberately making Love more of a focus on offense down the stretch of the regular season and we even saw that in the playoffs before he got hurt.

I've always expected Love to opt in this summer and look to cash in in the summer of 2016.  Maybe it is with the Cavs, maybe not, but either way I've always thought he would be back for next season.

I thought so initially, but being 3rd wheel and overshadowed by Tristan Thompsons play also, I can see him bolting.

I'm not real conversant with the CBA, except for the basics, but can/would a team offer a player a max contract giving the player the option to opt out after each year?

If so, that would have to be pretty attractive to Love and show more than "good faith" but leave some exposure for us (although maybe not as much as it seems).

a factor I had not considered.
