He is a great passer, but so is rondo and rondo is often a black hole on offense.
Actually black hole is the wrong word because he doesnt kill posessions but he offers little to no threat to score.
When it gets to the point where teams put their players in fould trouble on you because they know you arent going to draw a foul and wont be able to score despite being covered by wing players that means you are a huge negative on offense.
Noah: 7.2 points and 4.7 assists in 30 mpg this season.
Smart: 7.8 points and 3.1 assists in 27 mpg this season.
Noah generated more points for his team than Smart did this season. Surely, Smart isn't a black hole on offense, is he?
Black hole is a bit strong as I admitted, but sure, 30 year old declining Joakim Noah added slightly more in terms of offense than 21 year old rookie defense first gaurd Marcus Smart, who was probably the 7th scoring option on a 7 seed in the east.
Its not exactly a ringing endorsement. I was harsh on blackhole but he just not a guy teams feel the need to account for.
In the playoffs those numbers are
Noah
Smart 9.3 ppg 1.3 apg in 23 mpg
Noah 5.8 ppg 3.2 apg in 33 mpg
So in 10 more mpg Noah added roughly .5 more points per game in the playoffs.
