Egocentric is the word for the day.
Egocentrism is the inability to differentiate between self and other.[1][2]
Although egocentrism and narcissism appear similar, they are not the same. A person who is egocentric believes they are the center of attention, like a narcissist, but does not receive gratification by one's own admiration. A narcissist is a person whose ego is greatly influenced by the approval of others while an egotist is not. Similarly, egocentrism and absolutism appear to be the same but are not.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgocentrismMost people grow out of it, some sports stars did not. They are coddled from a young age and told how great they are and are catered to a great deal. I think LeBron is very egocentric, and I think this is a reason why I do not like him. I also am a very loyal fan of Bird, and tend to not like any SF, save PP besides him.
While I think he is a great player, I think the league is more about marketing their guys these days are the star calls are worse than in previous areas. Jordan, Bird, Magic routinely got mugged on shots. DET had a whole system of the Jordan rules, where they systematically play him tough and contest every shot.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_RulesLeBron has always got away with more than others. He was annointed as the games savior from the get go. He has rarely been gracious in doing so, but that does not take away from what he has done on the court. I think his time is coming to an end, he has 3-4 more seasons in him and I think the great physical gifts will start to decline and some new star, maybe Davis will take over as the chosen one.
I blame ESPN for a lot of the hype too.
