Been watching WCS a lot the last 2 seasons and I hope Ainge doesn't draft him. He seems like a good kid and he is pretty good on defense but he has as awful offensive game. He has no post moves and gets mosts of his points off of rebounds. I hate to say it but I cringed as soon as Ainge picked Fab Melo and I will do the same if he picks WCS. Melo was a bust like I figured he would be and I think WCS will be too but he might stick around a few years because of his defense but I hope it is not as a Celtic!! There will be some quality players in the 12-15 range where the Celtics are likely to pick that will be a lot better than WCS and I hope Ainge drafts some of those players that excite me which WCS doesn't do.

WCS is too smart of a defender to be compared to Fab Melo. WCS also seems like a leader and a hard worker.

Good points but I still think he will be another bust. If he didn't play for Kentucky he wouldn't be as overhyped as he is but that isn't his fault. 2 Kentucky guys I do like are Towns (will probably go 1 or 2 overall) and Booker. Towns will be great in the NBA and Booker has a chance to be a great shooting guard. I haven't made up my mind on Lyles yet but I would take him over WCS. If the Celtics make the playoffs I am fine with that but I won't mind missing the playoffs at all since it will give us a small chance to get Okafur or Towns who are the kind of quality big men the Celtics desperately need.

If we don't make play-offs, I think he will be available when we pick. Think his poor tournament play has caused him to slide quite a bit. I agree with OP, would not draft.

I agree on Towns. I've always thought he was the best player in the draft. Such a unique modern player. I like Booker and Lyles but I'm not sure we need either player. I would pick either if they were best available though. I respectfully disagree on WCS. I think he will be very good and would fit our team well. I also would rather a rim protector that also has some offense but I think WCS will really be a elite defender. I would take Dakari if he is available in the early second round of we haven't taken a center yet.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I found it interesting when earlier in the week I heard a couple of ESPN analysts casually say that Cauley-Stein's floor would be DeAndre Jordan. I have to say, if we picked WCS and he was at least as good as Jordan, I would be psyched; however, I would have to say that is more his ceiling than his floor.

Honestly, I don't think you watched much of Kentucky in the tournament if you thought he played poorly, and/or that it hurt his draft stock.  I missed last night's game, so I can't speak to it, but he absolutely showed his best stuff the first two weekends, and probably won the Notre Dame game with his defense.

nbadraft.net has him going 10th.  Draftexpress has him going 6th.  Wouldn't worry about it... he's off the board by the time we pick at 15/16

Lineup with WCS, Crowder, Smart, Bradley would be very stingy on defense.

WCS is a very elite defender, and I think that will translate very well. But I wouldn't pick him top 10 for C's. After that, yes. But as good as he is , Kaminsky was able to score against UK front line. Wonder if the  Kaminsky skeptics still think Frank is no better than Olynyk. What about his footwork, reflexes, and talent for scoring from anywhere?

of necessity, given the lack of consistent scoring that would come out of that group.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't know why people say he had a bad tournament. I think they probably already didn't like him before the tournament began.

It's possible we could trade up for him but probably unlikely.

Deandre is a better rebounder but I think WCS really will be an elite defender that can cover wings and bigs.
