I'm going to say it - I want to see playoff basketball.

It would be fun.

But realistically this team isn't going to do much damage in the playoffs. They're just not that talented enough....so no I don't think it would be a good thing for the TEAM to make the playoffs this year.

But they've been better than expected this year and they're actually not super bad as most have thought. I do wish they were super bad though because Thomas is our best player and he's a borderline All-Star at best.

I would rather have WCS next year but the top players are already out of our reach at the 12th pick. Someone would have to slip pretty far at that spot. So at this point we might as well go for the playoffs.

Great thing.

It's a great thing not because I think we'll win a championship (we won't), or even that the extra games will matter all that much (although I think Stevens getting a taste of playoff coaching will be important down the road).  I'm not worried about the draft pick and lottery odds.

It's what it means about the team we have now.  The team has gone 25-25 over it's last 50.  It's gone 18-14 since Jeff Green was traded.  It's gone 9-4 since the first game IT played in.  If the Celtics make the playoffs, it will not be because they've backed their way in.  It's because they'll have won their way in since starting 4-11, and being as many as 13 games under .500.  They'll likely have had a winning record for the final 3/4 of the season, and certainly a winning record with the roster that will finish out the year.

And that's great because it means that this team is much better than we thought it would be.  Whether that's because the players themselves are better, they fit together better, or they're coached better is somewhat irrelevant.  It will mean that in a year that it looked like we were cleaning the canvas to begin a new team with the trading of Rondo and Green, we in fact have the outline of what could be a successful team going forward.  It means we're much closer to banner 18 than it appeared on December 18th.

You shouldn't underestimate the value of a playoff series' experience for any young group.
Right now they are learning how to win games. I'm very impressed of how they learn fast. It must be coach stevens that did the trick.
Look how long it took for OKC to learn games before they started to be a decent team. It's the playoff experience that slowly make them contender.
Right now Celtics are playing each game like a playoff game, they tighten their defense, their rotation is like a unified 1 player. This is great, even if they will be sweep at the first round, I'm all for it.
It will pay in the future with whoever are left as green in this squad.

I think with 2016 looming it really doesn't matter. I do wish the east had some better teams so we could properly gauge how good this team really is...the losing record really bothers me.

that's not to say I don't acknowledge or appreciate how well they're playing, because they are playing really well right now. I just question weather we'd actually even be in this position if the hornets and a couple other teams like Detroit(who all the analysts predicted "should break out this yr.) played up to their potential. our record says we shouldn't be in this position. but like it or not the main reason we are is because the state of the east.

It's only a bad thing if you hang your hat on the 5% or 8% chance (or whatever it is with their current record) of getting the #1 pick.   Those odds have fallen as they have won more games recently. Chances of getting the #1 pick will be zero% if they make the playoffs. Are you the kind of fans who would rather have a slight chance than no chance?  If so, then the playoffs are a bad thing, but just remember what you give up in player development (they are assets) for all the other players as well as the coach by not making the playoffs.

Personally I would throw out everything that happened prior to the Green trade and just start there. What we have is a decent team that plays an interesting style of offense, hustles its butts off and is coached as well as any team in the NBA.

The team slipped as far as its going to slip last season. Its all on the upswing now and should continue that way.

Making the playoffs with 38 wins after all the roster turmoil would be a great sign of a team on the rise.

I think it's a good thing for this team to have something to play for. It's going to go a long way to showing what everyone on the roster is made of.

Mike

And considering we were 16-30 at one point, that'd mean we ended the season 22-14, an impressive feat for this collection of chumps.

In the eastern conference the Celtics can win in any series except for the Cavs at this point..
If they continue this streak and somehow sneak into that 6th seed watch out!

side note Stevens really should be COTY,, just wow

Mike Bubenholzer has that award waiting for him, most deserving of it too IMO

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

If I knew (or believed) that either the Clips or Mavs would fold completely over the last 15 games and we'd have picks 14 and 15 (and perhaps the Clips pick in addition if it's Dallas that falters), I'd be all gung ho about making the playoffs.

With 14 and 15, Danny's options would be plentiful.  Trade up this year using any combo of this year's picks (we'd also have Philly's #32), future picks, and a player.  Or use a package to get a player upgrade.

Solid play in the playoffs potentially adds value to our players under very tradeable contracts: AB, IT, KO, ET, MS, JC, JY and TZ.  Sully won't be adding value in street clothes this year, but he would still be another possible asset to include.

Depends how the offseason goes really. Should we strike out again, you could make the argument we should have tanked for talent. If the improvement means a strong FA signs with us as the "up and coming" team, it was a good thing.

"Playoff experience" is overrated. Rondo and Co never sniffed the playoffs until the Big Three came and then they began contending immediately. Talent trumps all..
