It would be a GREAT thing. This deserves and their coach will be a Coach of the year in this league one day.

Playoffs = good thing.

Don't forget, the Cavs got the #1 pick last year lol. So we may still be able to get the #1 pick too!

Depends how the offseason goes really. Should we strike out again, you could make the argument we should have tanked for talent. If the improvement means a strong FA signs with us as the "up and coming" team, it was a good thing.

"Playoff experience" is overrated. Rondo and Co never sniffed the playoffs until the Big Three came and then they began contending immediately. Talent trumps all..

Uh. Rondo and Perkins are pretty much the perfect examples of why playoff experience is so important along with proper leadership. Rondo was only a rookie before the Big 3 came together so let's not pretend he was in the league for many years before and playoff experience meant nothing for his development. Rondo and Perkins came back in 08-09 completely transformed. That season was arguably their best seasons as professionals and the confidence they gathered from a playoff run was huge in that. Toronto, Washington, Chicago, Indiana, Portland, and GSW are a few recent examples of young teams making the playoffs as subpar teams and then came out way better the next season with more confidence. Playoff experience is absolutely not overrated for young teams. The 2008 Hawks are pretty much another great example of this. They were a 38 win team against us and took us to 7 games. They came back next year and won in the high 40s or low 50s. It was a big deal for a franchise that was previously spinning their wheels for a decade or longer.

I agee about the playoff experience point and that talent trumps all -- and have made similar comments in the past.  However, it's not a bad point that playoff experience for Brad Stevens could be useful.  At some point he'll coach his 1st NBA playoff series -- it may be useful to get that out of the way early.

I haven't seen anyone on this thread suggest that they want the C's to lose on purpose.  You can want the C's to try their hearts out and still see silver linings in not making the playoffs.

While "playoff experience may be overrated, I'm not sure your comment is very relevant.  In addition to a healthy Pierce, the Celtics had a lot of turnover between 2007-2008.  Rondo, Perkins, and Tony Allen were the only two players from the prior year's team who finished in the top 9 in minutes in the title year (if we exclude Pierce from the tank year).  In the playoffs, Powe moved into the top 9 of the rotation and Allen dropped out, but regardless, it was a very different team from one year to the next, and isn't really comparable to the expectation for what next year's team might look like.

Bad thing.

The only reason we are talking about this is because the lack of playoff level teams in the East.  A sub 500 team playoff team is not something I look forward to in the NBA as a fan.

It is great how well the Celtics are playing now, but the team still needs more talent.  I rather the higher pick to give Ainge a better chance to get who he feels is the best possible talent instead of hoping a few more teams make draft mistakes.

Not hoping they lose more games, just that one of the teams ahead of them hold serve and keep the 8th spot in the East.

Winning is always good, screw the tankers.

Also, best-case scenario: Stevens wins COY, and free agents decide they want to sign with us.

Playoff experience might be overrated IF you have great Vets with plenty of experience that CAN communicate with the other team mates and make them ready for playoff. But when I see Lebron saying to his team mates "follow my lead" in the last nba finals, that's just a joke.
...
And about the fact that we make a playoff push because we are in the east, well, check our production against western team recently. I don't see any difference (oh yes I forgot, serious opponents look down on us and gave us the win, right)

I'd love to see this team make playoffs. They're loads more fun to watch with the moves they made jettisoning Rondo and Green. When the year began I would've rather had them not make playoffs but this team has more heart now than it has in about two years so I'm all in on the playoffs. Swept in the first round or not, I don't care!

Plus I think we still have enough "assets" to move up in the draft and snag WCS or hopefully some defensive-minded C.
Long-form is far from dead, but please refrain from paragraph-laden posts! Who wants to read that?!

Fwiw.   We've been above .500 for a while.

Since Rondo and Green left.   17-15

Since the Portland game when we started to turn it around.   16-10.

I agreed with you up until about two games ago. This season really does deserve to be broken into two parts - it's hard to believe it was even this season that Jameer Nelson and Brandan Wright played for us. If we make the playoffs with a win total in the high 30s, it will mean that we played well above .500 for the second half of the season and therefore are deserving of their berth. The difference in picks is likely to be only 3-4 spots anyway - while I know that every spot matters, the success and confidence of this group is also great to see.

I want to see Stevens coach against a better team 4 games in a row just to see what happens.

we have plenty of ammo to move up in the draft if we need to, not enough to get into the top 5, but that was a pipe dream anyway
