Pats can still wrap up the HCA next week so not exactly a damaging loss.
On the other hand, it also means you need to go full tilt next week, because, well, you need HCA.

I would not really mind the Jets being in the playoffs, really. The thought just doesn't bother me that much. Even more funny is the Jets draft picks just went down a spot in every single round.

i think this is the first time I've gone basically grammar nazi on anyone in a decade, but.....it's not HCA. It's HFA.

Depending on team health, I'm not even sure they'll go full tilt next week.  Belichick bending guys in the 2nd half next week wouldn't surprise me that much.

They got the bye. That was the most important thing, IMO.  HFA would be an added bonus but the off week is vital for this team heading into the playoffs.

I don't think this team wants to go to Mile High, but then again, that's just me.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The Pro Bowler Slater figured it out. Too bad the other guy didn't. He needs to go hide under a rock
Clete Blakeman clearly said "you want the kick?" What he heck does that even mean? The team clearly didn't want to kick off -- Slater was pointing out to where he wanted to receive the ball.

Also, is it time to fire Joe Judge yet?

Why is there not more of an uproar over this?? I also missed the end of the game and don't understand how, if there was any confusion, it couldn't have been cleared up pretty quickly. It's not like the coinflip was messed up. Obviously the Pats wanted the ball.

I get that we don't want the Steelers to make the playoffs, but this seems like one of the bigger gaffes ever.

I agree, but I'd rather go there than lose Gronk. It's the Dolphins. Sit some critical guys. Sit Gronk. Sit Jamie Collins. Sit Butler. Protect the OL as much as possible. Protect Edelman and Amendola as much as possible. Protect C Jones and Ninkovic and Hightower.

If they wanted the ball why did they say "We want to kick off"? I thought this was clearly on a Pats captain who needs to go hide asap

In what has now become even more utterly bizzare, Belichick said they did, in fact, want to kick. Well, I guess that one didn't work out. Or it did, if it were a master plan to screw the Steelers.

Well, tomorrow night's game is going to be interesting.   I heard today that a Denver win gives the Pats HFA, but  I think that is incorrect because if the Pats and Brocos end up 13-3 (and the Bengals (12-4), the head-to-head tiebreaker goes to the Broncos.   If the Bengals win, at least Pats are assured that they will not go to Denver.  If that happens, I say rest every relevant Patriot next week.

Kozlodev -- Vollmer was hurt in the 1st quarter and carted off.  The replay was ugly -- ankle/knee -- hard to tell but one of those plays where the other team was immediately calling for medical attention.  Not a good sign.   I think he's gone leaving Brady's blind side extremely vulnerable.

On the plus side, if Edelman and Amendola return to something resembling full strength, Brady can again get back to the 2-second release and mask OL deficiencies.   Another plus is the play of Keyshawn Martin, James White and Brandon Bolden -- all of whom have shown the ability to make plays.   I also thought Steven Jackson was OK.

I heard as long as the patriots beat the dolphins next week they are the #1 seed.

Should be doable especially with edelman, amendola, and mccourtey back.

I'm worried about their O-Line though. Hope Vollmer is ok in 3 weeks.

We need to win next week to lock up homefield.

Broncos would be 12-4 if they win out.

Oops -- yes, I was thinking that if Broncos win their next 2 and we lose, then we are in a tie with them (12-4), if Cinci loses the next 2, they'll be 11-5.  The guy on weei today said that if Denver beats Cinci tomorrow, the Pats get home field.  That is incorrect (right?).  Though I do think that if there is a 3-way tie, the Pats get HFA throughout.   True that all the Pats need to do is beat Miami next week, but I'd be all-in for resting starters if Cinci wins tomorrow night. Let Cinci get HFA.

As far as I have heard/can tell we can't clinch until next week
