ESPN's Schefter is saying it's the same bone break that kept Dez Bryant out 6 weeks earlier this season; if Edelman's timeline is the same, he'd be back for the last couple games of the regular season, which would give him time to shake the rust before the playoffs.
My initial instinct—as is often the case in these types of situations—is to panic and call this season a loss. After all, the O-line's been held together with duct tape all season, last week the Pats lost Dion Lewis for the season, and now Edelman is injured. How could they possibly stay afloat, much less go for a title, with all of that working against them?
But I'm clinging to hope. They still have the best QB in the game, the best coach, the best tight end, an O-line that's playing with a chip on its shoulder because lots of people are saying they can't keep it up, and a couple of capable receivers in LaFell and Amendola. By the end of the season they could have a couple of those linemen back, along with Edelman, and be clicking on all cylinders just as the playoffs start. They might lose one or two between now and then, but in one way that might be good—it might eliminate the burden of this perfection stuff. Because I've often thought that the '07 team would've won the SB had it suffered even one loss during the regular season, as it would've sharpened its focus.
