Ainge seemed very interested in Datome, and at one point was close to bringing him in until he balked at the high asking price Datome was requesting.

The Boston Celtics have been quiet in the early hours of free agency recruiting, but could be the front runners to sign an intriguing Italian forward.According to Sportando.net, six-foot-nine forward Gigi Datome will leave his Italian team, Virtus Roma, for the NBA this summer. Datome, who averaged 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists this past season, is expected to choose between the Celtics and Memphis Grizzlies.A source with knowledge of the situation told MassLive.com on Monday that Datome signing with the Celtics sounds like a pretty safe bet, but Boston would need to clear roster space for him.Sportando.net quoted Virtus Roma general manager Nicola Alberani as telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Datome is pursued by Celtics and Grizzlies with Boston as front runners to sign him."Earlier in the offseason it was rumored that Datome had already agreed with Boston, but he denied the news on Twitter. It's believed that Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was among several NBA front office executives to visit Rome this past season to scout the 25-year old.According to DraftExpress.com, Datome has shot 42.7 percent, 43.2 percent and 39.4 percent on 3-pointers over the past three seasons, making at least 1.5 triples per game each season. He's also a terrific free throw shooter, hitting more than 90 percent from the charity stripe in each of the past three campaigns.

Should be noted that by using the Wright TPE for Jerebko and the Rivers TPE for Datome, we will now have a Prince-sized TPE ($7.7 mil) going forward. Not a huge deal, but more useful on draft night than the two smaller ones.
